Can't create non-native resoultions
Can't create non-native resoultions
As title says, I can not create non-native resoultions.
I have used CRU to create custom resolutions, And when I create it one and then go to NCP or Windows display settings and change to that settings. The screen just insanely flicker and show crazy artifacts ( Impossible to set 95% of the screen content due to artifacts )
My screen default res in Windows display settings and NCP are from 1280 till 2560x1600
The resolution I am to create is 1920x1200
Now.. My windows default resolutions have that resolution. And when i select it, The OS sucesssfully *resize* my screen content to that res. But it is fake. The display sizes resizes to 1920 but the active signal mode/res always stays at 2560x1600p as shown in this screenshot
My aim is to create lower res with higher refresh rates. And since my active signal mode/res is always staying at 2560x1600 or when i make it 1920x1200p using CRU created custom res it will artifacts insanely.. i can not achieve my goal of low res / high refresh rate.
I have set the GPU scaling mode to no scale and it is the same thing, the only difference is now my display is sharper at the expense of low constraints / big sides black bars
Here is my CRU settings:
( cant upload pics, the admins for some reason dont allow screenshots, so it is extremally hard to post a well detailed post asking for help hence it will be harder for both the one asking for help and the one trying to help me in the help forum )
Laptop spec:
Ryzen 5800H 8 cores
RTX 3070 8GB 140W
32GB RAM
2560x1600 165hz 16:10 ( overclocked to 182hz at stock res with reduced timings )
Windows 11 22h4
Please someone help

Anyone? help
Re: Can't create non-native resoultions
Have you selected different timing mode? Like "Automatic PC"? The default ("Manual") will not produce correct timings for the custom resolutions.

Thank you so much for taking time to help me and look into my issue. Yes I have tried selection other timings profiles such as crt, reduced, etc same issue sadly
Re: Can't create non-native resoultions
I don't know why it doesn't work, but why not use GPU scaling? You have a 3070, which uses a good scaler anyway. If you think that looks "fake", the display scaling wouldn't look any better.

Re: Can't create non-native resoultions
i used all scallings forms, display, gpu, no scaling, with scaling, i dont really care, i just want my lower resolutions which i create using CRU to work, idc for anything else. but since you dont know, lets pray someone else have an answer T_T
thanks for ur help either way !

Re: Can't create non-native resoultions
btw i haven't seen a single person who created a lower resolution and his display signal matched that newly created ( lower ) resolution on the internet. Practically zero. esp on laptops. so i am doing something not publically available online for me to get info and help regarding it. so i am afraid even the nerds and experts here wont be able to fix my issue T_T it is game over for me apparently.
Re: Can't create non-native resoultions
another info: Even with out NCP and CRU i still can not change my active display signal/ res.
the OS will change resize my screen and call it 1920x1200 but the active signal will stay that of 2560x1600p.
so annnnnnoying issue i am dying

Re: Can't create non-native resoultions
i messed with the H rate in the display properties tab and the artifacts got a tiny bit better, but it is still crazily artifacting and flickering. like it went from 90% artifacts to 85% artifacts. i set the h rate to minimum of 70 and maximum of 286
i set the bitrate to 6 so bandwidth become less in hope of getting the issue fixed but no avail.
i don't believe it is related to limits of the monitor to be honest. coz the issue is there even with 60hz and even 30hz. so i am not pushing my monitor. there is a trick to make it work but no one knows it yet. even CRU creator himself sadly

Re: Can't create non-native resoultions
This is a laptop, right? Maybe there's a way to disable the iGPU. Some laptops have a MUX switch you can use to disable the iGPU. On MSI laptops for example that have it, you can do it in MSI Center. This would enable custom resolution support in the nvidia control panel and you could try creating a custom res there.
