G-Sync not working correctly?

Hi,

I can´t get off the feeling that G-Sync is not working correctly at my setup:
Samsung G7 Monitor VA 2560x1440 240Hz - Adaptive Sync is turned on at the monitor
7800x3d & 4090
Fresh windows installation (without Internet - did all basic driver updates before connected to the Internet).

Only change within NVCP was to turn on V-Sync and double-checked that resolution is set correctly and G-Sync is enabled.
  • If I run a benchmark like 3D mark the shown frames from the benchmark and Hz from the Samsung OSD matches perfectly.
  • In a game like Apex (V-Sync in-game turned "off", Nvidia reflex turned "on") - the framerate is capped at 225 frames without any drops but the Samsung OSD shows kinda high Hz fluctuations (going over 225Hz and also into 1xx Hz area), and now I just figured out as soon as I turn off Nvidia reflex in-game the cap moves to 240 frames and the Hz value also sticks now to 240Hz

Did I forget any setting, does my monitor just suck or is there any misunderstanding on my end?

It's normal. VRR readouts on the monitor OSD are always weird. The best way to tell if g-sync is working is simply looking at the screen, then pan the camera smoothly (gamepad analog stick is usually better for this test) or walk/run sideways (strafing) and see if the animation is smooth or there's some slight stutter/judder to the movement. If it's smooth, g-sync is working just fine.

Turn g-sync off, cap to 225FPS with vsync ON, and you should see some judder that you're not seeing with g-sync. Although at 240Hz and with FPS being higher than about 100, it can be hard to tell the difference between g-sync ON and OFF. But if you cap low enough, especially to something that doesn't map well to 240Hz (try a 75FPS cap for example,) then g-sync ON vs OFF should produce quite a noticeable difference in smoothness.
