MSI 271QPX can not change LFC range

Talk about AMD's FreeSync and VESA AdaptiveSync, which are variable refresh rate technologies. They also eliminate stutters, and eliminate tearing. List of FreeSync Monitors.

MSI 271QPX can not change LFC range

Post by Vad1us » 30 Nov 2024, 10:34

Hello.
Just bought MSI 271QPX QD-OLED 360Hz.
VRR, HDR enabled, AMD. DisplayPort Hz range 48-360Hz. With CRU I changed it to 120-360Hz. "Restarted" with CRU, rebooted PC.
But it does not help. In fact Hz is always doubled around ~55fps. Tried make range 80-360Hz - it does not work. LFC kick in always ~55fps
Tried to search this forum, tried to google, but did not find an answer so decided create a post.
Why LFC range is not changing? Am I doing something wrong?

You need to change the FreeSync range, not the refresh rate range.

This is the wrong thing to change:

This is what you should change:

Thanks for reply. I took instruction from displayninja.
They said that for DisplayPort connection the Refresh Rate Range should be changed. For HDMI connection FreeSync Range should be changed. And because mine default FreeSync range is 48-240Hz I thought they are correct, because HDMI max 240Hz.
Looks like they are wrong?

I edited FreeSync Range from 48-240Hz to 120-240Hz - and it worked!

The question is maybe I should edit max FreeSync Range from 240Hz to 360Hz?

Are you using an Nvidia card? If yes, you don't need to. The max freesync Hz is ignored by the nvidia driver. It only looks at the min Hz.

But you can change it to 360Hz anyway. It shouldn't hurt anything.

I am using AMD 6900xt.
255Hz is max value for FreeSync Range in CRU.

But I think VRR is working. When I have stable 300fps, HZ constantly jumping 100-200-360-100hz.
When I have 100fps, Hz is stable fps=hz. Strange.
Is it okay that Hz is jumping like crazy? I think picture is fine.

Oh. Didn't know that. It's probably a 1-byte value so can't go above 255. It doesn't matter anyway. The min Hz is what matters.

It depends on the frame times. If you use RTSS async limiter, it should be more stable. If the cap is not reached and frame times are fluctuating, then the display's OSD that shows Hz will freak out.
