120fps into VRR 120hz or 144hz

If the game is capped at 120fps, by the game engine itself.

Is it better to use Radeon chill to run it at 119fps into 120hz vrr, OR, 120fps into 144hz vrr.

Will the 144hz vrr cause input lag/ refresh stutter? :lol:

With VRR you should always use the maximum Hz of the display and also cap the framerate to prevent it from reaching the refresh rate. If your display's max Hz is 144Hz, then 120FPS @ 144Hz VRR is just about perfect.

Yes. Scanout speed will be fixed to 144Hz regardless of FPS. Meaning you always get QFT with VRR:

Unless there's a good niche reason, always use maxHz when using VRR, even if you cap well below VRR.

Even 60fps benefits from 480Hz VRR, since each "60fps" frames gets blasted over the DisplayPort cable in a scant 1/480sec. The GPU front buffer becomes the monitor framebuffer (or even beamraced on to the screen) in a mere 1/480sec at 480Hz, regardless of how low or high your framerate is!

(e.g. "Niche" reasons include: bad overdrive at maxHz or other firmware bug, or trying to lower maxHz of your strobed VRR to avoid maxHz crosstalk during strobed VRR, since you ideally want a little Hz headroom to avoid strobe crosstalk double images)
