Just found out about VRR flickering. How does one prevent that from happening while playing 60fps games w/ G-sync?

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Display is a Hisense u8kq running at 4k120hz. It's a VA display.

From what I gather this mostly happens when games fall out of the VRR floor, but in my case it's especially noticeable with games running at a stable 60fps (emulated games running natively 60, PC games purposefully locked at 60 both). As far as I understand it, solutions include using CRU to reduce the VRR window so that the desired framerate is outside of it (ie, from 48-144 to 75-144), which lets nvidia's frame doubling take care of the discrepancy with more consistent brightness than letting the framerate fluctuate between the whole VRR window, but I still find the theory behind it confusing as it's happening to games running at STABLE 60fps

Would someone please elucidate?

Sudden changes in refresh rate are responsible. If the game has frametime spikes, this will cause the display to LFC to a much higher refresh rate and then back again, causing the flicker.

A more stable framerate limiter can help (like SpecialK), but overall, you can't avoid it. Every single frametime spike in the game will be a flicker.

Can you explain why the same thing doesn't happen at higher fresh rates? ie, the same game that flickers at 60fps doesn't at 120 (or rather, 117 because that's where I set the limiter at to prevent going over VRR range), one would assume frametimes to be same or worse at 120 because the GPU is pushed way more.
I've also heard about changing the refresh rate of the display to 60hz directly and that reportedly helps a lot, but again i'm iffy on the theory so I don't know if it makes sense or it's placebo, plus remembering to edit display refresh rate depending on game is super annoying.
Finally, this* seems to provide a fitting explanation to everything (the nvidia card section, where it precisely reports flickering at 60fps on a 48-144hz range) and suggests shrinking VRR range with CRU as well. Can you confirm if this method is effective, considering you haven't mentioned it all?

Maybe at 60FPS it switches more to 120 and back to 60 again. Not sure. LFC can be weird sometimes.

The same thing happens to me when I limit games to 60 fps, did you finally find a solution?
