Was I wrong for all these years?

Post by mbm » 18 Mar 2025, 07:12

I have for many years allways been sure to cap my fps to the monitors 160hz.
because its been "told" its the best way.. GSYNC/VSYNC/REFLEX ON
every frame above 160 would be "wasted"

Going for a monitor upgrade 240-360 hz I just tried to see if my rig could push to these frames, so I disabled GSYNC/VSYNC.
and running games at 250-300 fps gave me so better perfomance regardles of my 160hz monitor.
I cant believe I have been holding my different PC´s back all these years...

So at this point I am actually enjoying the high fps on my 160hz monitor that I am having seconds thought on buying the faster 240-300hz monitor.
I know it will be an upgrade with he the higher refresh rate monitor, but will it be that much better?

Not true, in cs2 its an official recommended way by valve because they are clueless with their broken shitty game engine and (in some cases) only gsync+vsync helps.

At many non X3D processors its the only way how to run the game somehow smooth (or by doing defacto the same without vsync trough rtss fps limiter and -noreflex)

Yes so the question is will 240 fps on a 240hz monitor feels "faster" than on a 160hz monitor?
or Will it only feels "smoother" as fps and hz match.

if you google ropz cfg his max fps is 700,s1mple use to play with fps_max 0,i can find source when he says that is better that way.and of course for example in this video vsync always off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_UWuNkt_Wc

Any framerate has lower effective latency the higher the physical refresh rate, so 240 FPS 240Hz is, using your terms, both "faster" and "smoother" than 240 FPS 160Hz. The higher physical refresh rate, the less apparent tearing artifacts are at the same framerate as well.

By how much and whether it's "worth" it is down to the individual user, their preferences, tolerances, and budget, but a higher physical refresh rate is objectively better in any measurable scenario; there's no reason to have a finite refresh rate other than current engineering and manufacturing limitations.

max 500 fps as I could see. But I dont understand why they only use a 240hz monitor when there are 500hz avalible...
and lowres monitor 1920x1080 :)

so thishttps://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensiv ... /#lightbox is the stats of the last major in china,as you can see from the source at the end when you see pc parts, the tournament was played on 540hertz monitors, but at home every pro has diffrenet monitor ,yet most play 4:3,also most 55% use 360hz,try copy these settings and tell if you see difference.
