Possible Input Lag or Network Desync in Valorant? [Test Video]

Post by nSarval » 24 Apr 2025, 02:39

Hey guys,

I’m new to Blur Busters but I’ve seen in many posts that this community is extremely helpful.

I've been feeling like I die way too fast in Valorant, often without having a chance to react properly. So I decided to run a small test with a friend to see whether it’s my reaction time or something deeper like desync or input lag.

About us:
- Immortal 3 (me) and Immortal 2 (my friend)
- Both with 1,500+ hours in the game
- Familiar with things like Valorant’s netcode and OS-level settings that might affect latency
- My friend has a highly tweaked Windows setup; I’m using a more standard config

Why I did this:
Sometimes I notice small amounts of packet loss in matches (usually 50, sometimes up to 100–200 total packets lost). I'm not sure if that’s relevant, but I figured it might be worth mentioning.

The test:
- Custom match on Warsaw servers
- Map: Ascent – CT Spawn
- Both players took turns swinging from behind cover and trying to kill the other
- Each of us did 3 rounds (so 6 kills total – I know, not a huge sample)
- In the first 6 clips, I started the timer at the same time for each
- In the later clips, I started the timer the instant a single pixel of the opponent was visible

Setup details:
- ~50km distance between us
- Same internet provider
- Stable ping (30–35ms)
- My friend has years of experience optimizing systems for latency

What I’m wondering:
- Is this just how Valorant handles peeker’s advantage or are there signs of desync or input delay?
- Could BIOS/Windows tweaks really make a difference here?
- Are there better tools or more precise methods to analyze this kind of behavior?

I’m kind of stuck and would love some expert opinions.
Thanks in advance, and happy to provide more info if needed!

just a little bit of peekers advantage
this type of behaivour affects ping differences in game way more yk when u are 30 ping on frankfurt and the other guy from kazahstan has 90 it kinda sucks

further testing require pingplotter and after that wireshark
ive had problems in the past aswell similar to this
every network latency ping ms jitter graph seemed normal but it was worst on valorant

turns out i had a constant 10% packet loss on my router that wouldnt be picked up by any test graph
ping plotter shows the whole routing and its put in “hops”

every hop resembles something in ur network

modem, literally cable, isp routing etc you mai get in touch with ur isp if its ur modem or something along the cable

THE WORST CULPRIT OF ONLINE GAMING!!!!!!!!!
-your network node that distributes internet to an area in your city if its “busy” or inherently bad you are cooked it takes thousands just to try for the isp to check it and see if its really that bad i mean normal consumers dont notice it it but its HELL for online gaming
-or go with the contract and take the legal way which will take a very long time
-ppl moved locations some escaped network desync some not which is completly related to nodes and then comes modem, cables etc

try ping plotter for extended periods of time or at least 25 minutes the more the better
each hop will lead to the solution (pray its not your nade it will be hell to resolve this but its literally the best feeling when this thing works at it should)
try at different times aswell morning, afternoon around 18,17or so and night
dont mention busy hours like 12-17 they are just gonna brush you off as it will say that is the most busy hours
