50 series can't perform scaling on GPU, should I worry about it?

Hello,

As a first post I apologize, I tend to leave questions like these when I have no other solutions.

I acquired a 5090 2 weeks ago for my PG27AQDP OLED 480 Hz monitor. My excitment was cut short when I noticed that NVCP does NOT allow me to perform scaling on GPU, only on Display, whilst my older and second monitor at 240 Hz can.
As you may imagine, I play CS2, and 4:3 is an absolute crutch.

I did some research, and it turns out this is an NVIDIA issue (and unfortunately they're doing their best to not fix it). Reached out to the support, made as much posts as I could, all I could do right now is turn to you guys for more guidance.

I did read online that scaling on display at native does not leat to any input leg or frame visibility issues, however, as 4:3 is not native to my monitor (but it did come with 1280x960 and 1600x1200 4:3 installed within the monitor), can I trust my Display to perform the scaling? Is the scaling hardware of the asus pg27aqdp good enough to avoid any issues with a 5090 until NVIDIA fixes it? I may end up returning it for a 4090 if that is the case.

i can't understand you correctly, do you mean you don't have “gpu scaling” tick in nvcp, or is your gpu scaling performed wrong?
i have rtx 5070 palit infinity and xl2546 monitor and i'm able to choose "gpu scaling" tick in nvcp, when i choose it, my monitor osd shows 1920x1080 while i'm having 1280x1024 in the game, if i choose display scaling my monitor osd shows 1280x1024

I can't perform scaling on GPU at all, it is not an available option. I heard Display may cause input lag or that it depends on the hardware of the monitor.

Should it be something I worry about considering the display I am using? If so it is possible to fix it?

I have the same issue. I recently aquired an rtx 5090 and play pubg with 1728x1080p custom res. Like the OP, in the NVCP there is no option at all to chose GPU scaling, only available option is prrform scaling on display which I also experienced to be more laggy in the past.

With my previous GPU, rtx 4090, I could chose perform scaling on GPU to receive the best input response.

Is there a fix for 5090 owners?

I see in the screenshot that your monitor supports g-sync, have you tried turning off g-sync in nvcp via “Enable Developer Settings”->“G-Sync settings” or via monitor settings?

This is a known issue by Nvidia since 2 months if I'm not mistaken, but they surely don't give a F.
To my understanding - this happens with DSC Monitors only. Thats why GPU Scaling is available with 5000 Series Cards on none DSC Monitors.
This is unacceptable, since not everyone has an old TN Panel and many of us moved to OLEDs WQHD with more than 240hz.Thats the whole point of having a 5090 Card - to not play on FULL HD. The Irony tho.

I reached out to ASUS and they claimed that the PG27AQDP has good scaling capabilities, I would like to know if in general monitors have hardware capable of handling scaling and limiting then the risk of input lag. Because ultimately, it is better to have 480+ Hz on DSC with a 50 series capable of displaying such framerate than going back to the 40 series and dropping below 400 frames with it.

I had PG27AQDP, and AQM. Both had horrible scaling if using lower resolutions. Image is extremely blurry.

I sold them both and just got a 600hz 25" zowie and play at 1728x1080p. Even though its much less ppi, it has much clearer image than using a blurry oled monitor at a lower resolution than their native.

Nvidia will add GPU Scaling back again in their next Driver Batch. Ive read it in Nvidia Forums from a Nvidia Guy.
So right now we have 576.80 which belongs to 575 Drivers. I guess when 580 comes out, GPU Scaling should work again. Fingers crossed they dont lie to us.
