G-sync inconsistent activation

Post by andrei80 » 22 Sep 2025, 09:49

Hello!
I recently got myself a Dell 2422HG(Freesync 165hz, connected by DP), set things up in Nvidia CP as instructed by blurbusters and managed to get it working in CoD BO6. Problem is that in most other games it doesn't work, they are all capped at 60HZ/60fps, with all fps related settings disabled in game. I did find a workaround today, changed display refresh rate in "Change resolution" settings from 60 to 120 HZ(highest available in Nvidia CP) and now games are capped at 120hz, with G-sync working. This setting was not required in any Gsync related instuctions, so it's a bit odd...Any ideeas? Is this setting increasing my idle power consumption, or has any other bad effect?

VRR can only adjust refresh down, not up.
Obviously if you run your monitor at 60 Hz - G-Sync will be limited to 60 Hz too.
Some games have an option to switch your monitor refresh rate, but many don't and will keep using what you set on your desktop.

It can be caused by the video cable, or the port that you used -- if only 120Hz instead of 165Hz shows up -- then try a different port on card + different port on monitor + maybe a different DisplayPort cable. Sometimes it's an older DisplayPort 1.0 or 1.1 cable that's causing problems.
