First thing first, thanks you guys to help us out with our doubts and issues, really appreciated
I bought this monitor few days ago and I'm still playing around to find the settings holy grail !
This is what I ended up, after reading most of the posts related to this Benq model:
Blur Reduction: On
AMA: High
Instant Mode: On
Brightness: 100%
Contrast: 40%
... on the Strobe Utility:
Persistence: 1.0ms
Crosstalk: 0 (cursor full on the left)
I made few tests with the VT trick(1920x1080@120Hz), basically tweaking the Vertical Total, while the horizontal was left to its default (2080):
1) Timing: auto
2) Timing: manual & VT=1350
3) Timing: manual & VT=1502
Here're my impressions while running the "TestUFO Alien Invasion" test tool (fullscreen):
1) first three rows from above are affected by some amount of overdrive while center of the screen (middle two rows) are pretty clear (no great overdrive signs); unfortunately the last three rows are heavily affected by ... suggestions welcomed here since I don't know the technical term
http://imgur.com/gTxczZe
... last rows look indeed like the UFO has been rasterized few times around a central axis, shifting slightly left or right each time
2) overdrive artifacts begin to show more consistently throughout the whole screen, being a bit lighter in the middle. Good thing is that the annoying artifact, decribed in the previous point and affecting the lower rows, has almost disappeared.
3) overdrive here is evident everywhere and very severe in the top rows but the 'overlaying' issue found in the last rows is gone.
Stated the above, here're my questions:
A) is there any potential long term damage or LCD panel life span shortening coming from the 1350/1502 VT trick
B) since all these tests are run with a perfect match between refresh rate and FPS, what would you suggest as optimal settings in a scenario in which game frame rate can vary and player can't do much about it
... what I'm thinking about indeed is my personal case in which, as an occasional gamer now
I'm afraid I'm sweating hard to find the perfect amount of this or that which makes the panel shine in the UFO test when, in real life, it won't simply happen or be applicable
Thanks !
