Oled for FPS without tearing / flickering question

High Hz on OLED produce excellent strobeless motion blur reduction with fast GtG pixel response. It is easier to tell apart 60Hz vs 120Hz vs 240Hz on OLED than LCD, and more visible to mainstream. Includes WOLED and QD-OLED displays.

Oled for FPS without tearing / flickering question

Post by zudau » 12 Feb 2026, 04:01

Hello,

Currently I am on IPS 1440p Alienware AW2723df 280hz monitor. I am using it as my main monitor for work and gaming. Mainly I play CS2.
I am looking for an upgrade to higher refresh rate monitor. I want responsive, fast, low latency and not "old" tech monitor.
FYI: I cannot stand if I get screen tearing during gameplay (if makes me feel, that game is laggy, not responsive and not enjoyble).
So all the time I am using GSync On with VSync off. Also, for the best latency I am not using FPS cap with VSync on.

After some monitors research I found info that if You won't hit constantly for example 480fps with 480hz Oled and will use GSync on it, flickering will appear. Is this true? Or if GSync will be OFF, will it tear with not constant at max FPS?
Oled is fast, responsive and have other benefits, but I am afraid of flickering or without GSync - tearing.
So both of these, kind of stop me.

I have 5070ti with Ryzen 5800x3d, on my current 1440p my monitor with high settings I hit between 300-400fps constantly, with 1% lows can get to 200 at the rare times.

Really confused and don't know what to choose.

Maybe somebody have suggestions on this topic or more information about flickering / tearing on OLED's in general.

Thanks :geek:
