How to reduce the advantage of an enemy with low ping CS2?

Post by F1zus » 02 Mar 2026, 04:39

Recently I noticed that in CS2 there is quite a big difference between low and high ping. Usually my lowest ping is 40ms to Sweden and overall the game seems competitive to me. But when I come across opponents with a ping of 5-10ms, it is impossible to shoot them. They come out much faster and move and shoot at me faster than opponents with a 40-60 ping. And this does not depend on their level of play. Even if an absolute beginner with a ping of 5 comes across me, he still sees me faster and starts shooting first.
I haven't seen such a difference in CSGO.
Are there any console commands for CS2 that can reduce the difference between high ping and low ping?

there is no settings for it. Maybe try exitlag kinda programs to lower a bit.

There are some windows tweaks that you can do but they cost fps/game responsiveness

My advice is to stop treating cs2 as csgo, both are different games. you die behind wall in cs2 while this was mostly not present in csgo apart from some crouch scenarios.

Settings that you can do for better shot registry or more direct feeling in the game :

1- Bufferbloat fix - Google "Bufferbloat test" > and go to result from - waveform . test your buffer bloat . If it is not A+ then go ahead with this fix
You have to either buy a new router that has specific features to manage this bufferbloat or you have to sacrifice 20% of your maximum internet speed.
Go to your router page and configure it to limit the maximum allowed speed to be 80 % of your total internet plan. If such setting does not exist then try adding all the devices manually and setting the speed limit to half for low priority devices and 80% for high priority devices. Check your bufferbloat again and reduce the speed more till it gets to A+.
There is also a command inside windows to do this for you but you lose major internet bandwidth for competitive advantage.

The Auto tuning windows command : To enable - netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
To disable - netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

2. Interrupt moderation in adapter options set to disabled - it eats up your cpu resources more and enable it only if you have fps to spare.

3. Add your refresh rate in launch command for cs2.
cs2 sometimes drops refresh rate if not set explicitly. you can add "-refresh 240" for a 240hz monitor or "-refresh 144" for a 144hz monitor
4.
Cap your fps to your monitor refresh rate or if you want to play uncapped then put the fps to 999 and not 1000 - i don;t know why but i have good experiences when i had it set to 999 in place of 1000. i have also seen m0nesy use 999 too.

The bufferbloat will help you the most. Do try that first .
And a small gameplay advice : Stop holding angles with rifles or just jiggle the angle and be ready to shoot when you jiggle. you decide when to peek an enemy instead of waiting for them to appear on your screen and relying on your reflex.
Hold an angle if you have AWP but try to avoid holding angles with rifles.
I hope this helps you !

You will always be at a disadvantage with high ping, but cs2's new sub-tick method mitigates this by time stamping your hit regs. But if you have bad input lag, doesn't matter what your ping is, you will always have trouble hitting your shots.

I played with low and high ping before, sub-tick helps a lot with taking the huge advantage away that a low ping player has. I've shit on players with 1 ping and I was 30 ping. So i've never had an issue with my high ping affecting my game play. Input lag is your problem not ping.
