Hello, I’ve just bought a new PC along with all the peripherals, and I’ll be moving in a new appartmant in a few days (hoping this will fix my input lag issues)
I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people here when it comes to optimization and similar stuff, so I’d appreciate some advice.
Once I set everything up, which Windows version should I install, and is it worth going for a custom OS (Atlas, Revi, Kirby, etc.)?
It would also be great if anyone has a guide (GitHub or similar) on how to fully optimize a PC for gaming.
I hope someone can help me out thanks!
I've used AtlasOS, it's pretty decent for older hardware (rx 580/570, intel 9400f) but really the more you try to optimize windows with scripts from people who don't know what they're changing and often breaking, you're better off with an official iso, personally I never tried it but I would try an LTSC iso, Microsoft already debloats the Windows crap, it's a very very solid foundation.
Also Windows update can be the silent killer of performance, lately I've been testing manually installing updates that I want with .msu or .cab packages, .cab packages can be installed with DISM /online /add-package /packagepath:"c:\path\to\windowsupdate.cab", it's a rabbit hole of its own but at least you know what breaks stuff, not letting windows break it for you and having no idea which update does.
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx if you want to download manual updates. You can also try updating chipset/gpu drivers through manual updates.
Really out of all that I typed just get an LTSC iso if you don't want to bother much.
