Help monitor replacement
Hi everyone!
A year ago, I bought an Alienware OLED monitor (the AW2725DF) because I had the AW2521HFA, which I was super happy with. But at 25 inches in 1080p, my PC was falling asleep a bit, and I wanted something larger. I have to admit, right from the start, I wasn’t blown away by the colors, the depth of the blacks, or anything else, but I was won over by the aspect ratio. However, I had severe banding on the screen. I read that it would go away over time, so I let it slide for a while, but I eventually ended up requesting an exchange. Dell wanted to give me a refurbished unit (for an OLED, no thanks). So, I just got a refund instead.
Today, I’m back on my old IPS, and I’m having a hard time seeing what I actually lost compared to the OLED. I never used HDR, and maybe I just don’t know how to optimize the image settings. I mainly play competitive games, with the occasional session of Elden Ring or Cyberpunk, and I watch some videos/anime. I feel like I might not be the target audience (since I can’t see the difference lol).
Now that I’m looking to buy again, I’m hesitating between three models: getting the Alienware AW2725DF again, going with the LG 27GX700A-B, or the ROG Swift PG27AQDP. For context regarding my room: I play with a window located to the right of the screen, and when it’s dark, I have lamps turned on behind the monitor.
I don’t know if ROG or LG are better than Dell for my specific setup. If you have any feedback or advice to help me make a choice and properly configure everything, I’m all ears. Thanks

Re: Help monitor replacement
If you do get an OLED, I would suggest a latest gen QD-OLED panel ("5th gen.") They have image quality fixes as well as an RGB stripe sub-pixel layout, just like LCDs.
If you decide to go LCD instead and don't care for HDR, the IPS Nvidia Pulsar displays are definitely worth a look, even though their price is awfully close to OLED.

Re: Help monitor replacement
If you've noticed (vertical) banding on QD-OLED, a 3rd/4th gen WOLED panel will be only worse in that regard.Drabat wrote: ↑20 Apr 2026, 13:00Hi everyone!

People keep on forgetting that most competitive games are limited by the frame rate for clarity improvements (bound by sample & hold)Drabat wrote: ↑20 Apr 2026, 13:00Today, I’m back on my old IPS, and I’m having a hard time seeing what I actually lost compared to the OLED. What specific comp games do you play? Depending on this answer, I can give you a few concrete models.

I'd go with a AOC Q25G4SR or Titan Army P245MS Pro (Russla / China / Japan, for now), if I were you.

Re: Help monitor replacement
If you've got money to burn and want ultrawide again, a latest-gen QD-OLED with RGB sub-pixel layout like the MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 looks interesting. It has higher than average brightness in SDR as well. One review:

As always, try and find out as much as you can before buying, especially with competitor models that use 5th gen QD-OLED panels. Especially with things like firmware issues, port support, DSC settings, etc.
