I tried bfi on both 24hz and 30hz videos in retroarch to 120hz. Which is just 1 frame 1 blank. I expected a 2x jump in clarity with double image and so on. Instead I got no noticeable increase in motion clarity. Not even to 40fps. Not only that, it was less smooth than just playback at 120hz.
Originally I was going to ask extended math questions. However I am not sure if it matters. May I assume a double strobe simply cuts an mrpt by half and so on? 60hz with 7 black frames inserted on a 480hz display. With 30hz content blacked to 210hz/4ms and cut down to 105hz clarity because it would be a double strobe. Except that's not quite correct either.
At 30hz, A black frame every 3 frames to 40hz is much clearer than 30hz 2 sequences of 1 blank 1 visible.

So my question or focus is, does strobing in general work like this too? I am not sure what to think other than strobing is fairly useless/impractical to me. Atleast for media. But now I do not understand what the point of a 72hz container is if it would triple strobe. Especially in VR. Did movies on crt tvs never go above 80hz motion clarity.
Help understanding multiple strobe/ if retroarch is doing multi strobe below 60hz

I can assure you that CRT's far eclipsed the effective motion clarity of 80Hz.
They were more akin to 10 kHz (10'000 Hz) in effective motion clarity instead.
Which means, even the highest UFO speed was perfectly sharp on them.
As for your other questions, I believe any software-based solution is limited to the panel's native refresh rate in terms of pulse on value it targets.
Though, take my answer with a grain of salt. I'm somewhat ignorant on them.

A movie on that dell crt monitor would look like this https://testufo.com/blackframes#multistrobe=5
A 5 second look on a 120hz screen should tell you enough. I know you are flicker sensitive but it really should be obvious. On the dell crt it would look the same plus the crts strobing. Crt tvs had 5-3ms red phosphors.
I do not mean offense but you should have been able to try all (and I mean all) the display types with the amount of time you have spent on here. Even with developing countries salaries. You should have been able to accumulate $3-4000 usd to try everything. Even if selling after.
My conclusion with all of this is that the movie watchers were right. You want the biggest screen you can get. "Novody ever regretted going bigger". Get a 100 inch mini led or 83 inch oled
