BUSINESS INTERNET (CANADA) TO FIX INPUTLAG JITTER

Hello guys, I've been looking at these forums but haven't joined until now. Moreso I've been leeching and absorbing all of the information that you guys have been submitting on my journey to achieve pro player/twitch streamer level of smoothness.

To sum up my issues, I have input lag/jitter whenever I do anything regarding the internet. Key places where these inconsistencies show are when I play valorant, league of legends, listen to music, even something as simple as posting photos on instagram and having the photo look slightly off after posting.

I'm living in British columbia, not in Vancouver but nearby, and ever since I moved to this house I haven't been able to figure out this issue. Its been years of struggling, and I've tried literally every tweak both recommended and random things I've come up with myself.

My current setup:

Crosshair Viii HERO motherboard
EVGA 3090 FTW3
Benq XL2546k
Razer viper pro mouse
Razer huntsman v3 pro keyboard
Used to have residential fiber years ago (better but still issues) , now i have 2G DOCSIS coax (worse)

Basically I have all the best stuff. I got to this final setup after starting with a more moderate one, and I kept upgrading hoping that the upgrade would be the solution. Until I got to this "endgame" setup which I know could be more expensive, but many pro players use worse setups than mine and are pro players.

After trying hardware changes, firmware changes, software changes, tinkering with absolutely everything I've ever seen on this forum, including some weird stuff like changing the lightbulbs in my house because apparently the lights and wallplugs are connected on the same circuit. I've come to the final conclusion that the only thing it could possibly be is the internet.

Here's weird behaviour that supports my theory. My game feels terrible and I get instantly one shot even though I have pristine reaction time (150ms and probably lower if i had better internet latency) and hand eye coordination. It feels bad most of the time, but the only time it feels good is late at night. The game sometimes feels better but clearly different and more sensitive and reactive around 5AM everyday. Something about the 5AM timing makes everything so different. Game feels responsive, music sounds clearer. For the longest time that has been my reference point of what it SHOULD feel like.

Nothing but NETWORK related tweaks really solved the root of the problem, and made the game feel better. One thing I noticed was I'd hard reset my modem late at night, and everything would run smooth. The following day during daytime the game would feel better, but not as smooth. Almost as if the modem reset synced with my ISP properly during non peak hours, and I still felt the positive benefit during peak hours.

Long story short I've come to the conclusion that because the game feeling terrible follows "peak hours" for ISP network, its internet related. I'm currently waiting for a "small business" fibre to the home (townhouse) installation thats coming in a week which I've signed up as a sole proprietor. There's no documentation that there will be a difference in performance, but I'd assume since I live in a western country that I'd have a chance at my problems being fixed by this change. I would assume that if my ISP is locking me in a 3 year contract instead of 2, heftier penalties for cancellation, giving me a new business grade modem and router, making me pay atleast 20-30 dollars more every month, that the LEAST they can give me is internet that feels stable 24/7. Because thats what a business would need right?

Anyways this is pretty much the last thing I have to try before I give up on this house that I'm living in, and I hope it doesn't get to a point where I literally have to invest in moving where I fucking live just to get my internet to work as advertised.

If anybody else lives around the same area and has something to say it would be greatly appreciated.

I also have similar experience with internet related things fixing it for a bit. But I already tried different network and isps, mobile data,and different locations. The problems are still there.

Here's an update. I got Fibre small business internet installed at the speed of 1Gb. They installed a business modem and a Meraki MR28 wifi access point. The access point is only for wifi and has no ethernet ports. My modem is in a panel in my garage, is connected via ethernet through my walls into my living room into two different ports one in main area other closer to kitchen. The wifi access point is connected to one, and my computer is connected into the other wall port in the living room.

TLDR it's smooth and everything I hoped it could be. It was installed today so I'll wait and see if the performance degrades

LAST UPDATE. I dont know if anybody is checking this thread but turns out that upgrading to Fibre small business internet solved all my problems. It's weird because its such a minor difference, but it makes the experience night and day. Just a little inconsistent network/input lag can change your KDA from triple negative to triple positive.

The best way I could describe how it feels gaming without input lag anymore is I feel one with the server. It's almost like the server is my computer, I don't feel any sort of weird desync anymore. I can get away with playing like a dummy and just beating people with my reaction time and mechanics.

Thank you to this forum, and although there's a lot of stuff that ends up wasting your time, I think it's all necessary to learn what kind of components are prone to underperforming regardless of the benchmarks saying its working well. Looks like it was network related for me.

Did you had XGS-PON fiber before? Since you are now on a 1G plan it means you are on GPON.

Docsis is just an obselete technology that every ISP should get rid of asap, but you know they prefer milking as much as possible out of it. The only countries with proper Docsis implementation are Czech Republic, Some parts of the UK, Some very very small parts of the USA. Everywhere else is terrible.

What i mean by proper Docsis implementation is Docsis 4.0 or at least two large OFDMA upstream channel and even with that you still have noise issues (ingress), etc.

Plus the fact that Cable Nodes are always underprovisioned; in my country even though nodes are designed to serve around 50 consumers, it is very common to see 150-250 clients on a single node. Constant saturation and our supervisors just didn’t care to do anything about it...

XGS-PON (fiber plans that are higher than 2G) are also usually poorly implemented. Mainly because ISPs uses a multimodes fiber cards instead of a Proper XGS-PON only cards. Once again to cut costs.

There are also the Fiber splitting ratio to take into account.

ISP in Belgium are just dogshit. They use a splitting ratio of 1:64 for GPON and 1:128 for XGS-PON. Which is way too much.

For example in the UK (cityfibre) where a person i know is working they split 1:8 for GPON and 1:16 for XGS-PON (4x less clients on a single PON port) so way better....

In Portugal they split 1:16 max. in France they also split 1:16 or rarely 1:32 depending on the city.
In Denmark they also split 1:16 or 1:8 sometimes.
I have yet to see a country like Belgium that split 1:64 or 1:128...

Anyways XGS-PON is prone to more issues too (needs more optical power and has worse sensitivity to lower optical powers)

All in all I always recommend people to stay on a GPON fiber if they can, like in your case here.

Input lag will still come back. Everyone has already been through this. A new ISP and hardware might work great for a while. There were cases where it lasted for 1–2 months
