Hi all,
I notice a lot of VRR flicker on my AW3423DW on Silent Hill 2, and as such I went ahead and disabled GSYNC. I noticed that even if I set a driver cap of 72 FPS (monitor is set to 144hz) it is still juddery as I pan the camera around.
If I set the vsync in NVCP to Adaptive Half, which is 72 FPS, it's perfectly smooth. I don't mind the input lag.
Now, I wanted to play at 48 FPS, for more eye candy, but for some reason even if I limit it there and then use vsync regularly it doesn't seem as smooth, I can tell it's displaying a frame for an extra amount of time compared to the rest, which shows up as judder. Is there a way to have vsync but at 48 FPS properly work in my scenario?
Thanks all.

You cannot use the nvidia limiter for this. You need an accurate limiter that will cap exactly to 1/2 refresh rate, and also be able to provide frame times accurately enough for it to be smooth.
I use Special K for this. See:

Except in your case, it's 144 instead of 60 and 72 instead of 30.

Re: Nvidia adaptive vsync available in thirds?
Yes. It's what I use as well, since my WOLED monitor (Asus XG27AQDMG) is terrible at VRR due to the extreme flicker. We're in the same boat, and SK is how I solved the problem of not using g-sync.
I usually run 180Hz on it since I cap to 90FPS in most games. I use 240Hz for games where I prefer to cap to 120FPS.
But you can choose whatever refresh rate factor you want for the FPS cap (1/1, 1/2, 1/3, etc.) In your case, I'd probably leave the display at its maximum 175Hz and use 1/2 cap for 87.5FPS, and 1/3 for 58.3FPS. I'd only switch to 144Hz if I really want to go down to a 48FPS cap for whatever reason. And to 120Hz for capping to 60FPS, or for games that are hard-capped to 60FPS.

Re: Nvidia adaptive vsync available in thirds?
Just wanted to give an update, I tried SpecialK. I couldn't get it to properly use 1/3 without stuttering. There was a judder every 10-15 seconds roughly.
I had tried NVPI, the revamped version on GitHub and it works flawlessly. You can close the application as it edits the driver settings, so no need to have anything extra running.
Absolutely zero judder playing at 1/3 on 48 FPS at 144 Hz.

This is the "present interval" setting in SK (in the "Swapchain" section.) -1 lets the game use whatever it wants, 0 is vsync off, 1 is normal vsync, 2 is 1/2 vsync, 3 is 1/3, and 4 1/4. It doesn't require restart and you can change it at any point while the game is running, taking effect immediately.Vastoren wrote: ↑25 Jun 2026, 10:09Just wanted to give an update, I tried SpecialK. I won't work if you're forcing vsync in the driver. It must be set to "use 3D app setting" there.
