Hello all, I am new to the computer building scene and well heres the story...a couple days ago my brother offered to send me his old graphic cards, a pair of radeon 1 gig ddr5 6870's and my ten year old Dell doesnt support xfire suprisingly haha. So i decided to build a new unit on a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 with a vishera 8350. As i decided to build a new pc and was lucky enough to get two cards for free I want to make the most of it and have been doing a little research, my question is, since the 6870's have display port should i utilize them/it? I'll only be using one monitor that is yet to be purchased, i was thinking a 2420TE or a 2420Z, maybe even a 2411z depending on pricing and whats available here in a few weeks after i stack some cash for a purchase. Any thoughts on what monitor to get? Is it worth it to go display port? The computer will mostly be used for gaming.

Does it matter? I suppose most, if not all, DP monitors also have DVI and maybe HDMI.

Displayport1.2 is just the one with the most bandwidth.
If you are looking at 4k displays, THEN its time to make sure you are using displayport1.2 and not anything else... otherwise, doesnt matter.

It is preferable that the monitor you get has only one input at all tho, that means the internals are simple and no extra input lag is created anywhere in the monitor. But thats not too big a deal... there are usually other things people look for first.

You COULD wait a month or two and see if freesync monitors really are as cheap as current 120hz monitors. Your video cards dont support freesync, but having that possibility in the future is VERY worth it IMO. Thats what i would do anyway.
