Overclocking U2913WM

Hi guys. First post on this forum. Wasn't able to register earlier, because of the spam filter issue. Have read most of the articles on this website and really like the topics that where discussed! I like to play most of my games at a 21:9 aspect ratio and would love to increase the smoothness.
I bought the U2913WM at the same time I bought my gtx Titan. Experimented a bit with the feature of display overclocking that Nvidia released with there drivers at the time. I got it up to 86hz, but the experience was so bad that I turned it off. It was not until I found this website a month or so ago, that I realized I had frame skipping issues back then. After further testing almost 2 years later, the overclock is stable at 76hz. Between 77 and 86hz I have frame skipping issues and at 87hz I get a blank screen. Would have loved to have run this panel at 75-76hz the last couple of years, but oh well. You don't know what your are missing until you start using it, just like ssd vs hdd.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Would changing the timings give me a higher stable overclock? If yes, does anyone on this forum also have a U2913WM (or maybe similar panel) that can give me some pointers?
2. I have made custom resolutions for 72hz, 75hz and 76hz. When a video runs at either 24 or 25 fps, I switch to 72 and 75 hz respectively. The playback seems a little bit smoother. Do you guys think it is worth to switch between different refresh rates for this purpose? Also, is there any other way to switch between refresh rates faster then selecting them in the Nvidia control panel?
