Questions about Blur Reduction

Post by LemonMeringueTy » 31 Jan 2015, 16:13

New owner of a XL2411Z, was curious about a few things involving Blur Reduction.

Does using Blur Reduction add any input lag? If so, how much?

Does using Blur Reduction at all times shorten the lifespan of the monitor or LEDs?

If so, does using the VT 1500 tweak shorten it even more since it allows the monitor to run brighter at 120Hz?

i've got a question too but i reply this to this thread (non sense to doing a new thread)

dooes LIGHTBOOST add input lag? If yes i've got BETTER reaction time at 144hz without lightboost or in 120hz WITH lightboost? (i playin csgo)

I can't answer your first question, but if it does you're definitely better off using 144Hz.

I can answer the first question(s), that is does either Blur Reduction or LightBoost add any input lag and the answer is - NO.

All that these techniques do is just strobe the backlight. In other words, instead of having the screen lit up all the time constantly, the backlight is going to flicker. Now, at 120Hz, it will flicker so fast you won't even notice, but technically, it will go on and off 120 times per second (at 120Hz).

Note - the light in the back will go on and off, not the input of the screen so it's not like turning the monitor on and off, it's still constantly receiving data at the exact same rate. In fact, it's almost like changing the monitor's color balance or brightness - these also don't affect the input at all.

As for whether it shortens your monitor's lifespan, I'll let more knowledgeable people reply as I'm not sure.

No one can answer your second or third questions.
Because, unfortunately, no one knows.
If they knew they would have replied.
I've yet to see a monitor panel die prematurely from strobing. What CAN damage the backlight LED's is overvoltage, and there is a known problem with 50 hz SINGLE STROBE (if not using VT tweaks--if you are using VT tweaks and the 60hz backlight pulse widths are used at 50hz refresh rate, then it will stil work fine), where strobing fails to initialize but the voltage to the backlight is increased as if strobing were active anyway--which can cause damage. So don't use 50hz single strobe.

And no, VT tweaks will not shorten the lifetime of the monitor because you aren't doing anything except changing how the LC panel updates. Besides why does it matter if blur reduction reduces the lifetime of the monitor, anyway? By the time the monitor would ever fail, newer panels would be out with even more features.

Stop worrying so much.

Alright, thanks. It does matter if it reduces the lifespan of the monitor because not everyone likes to drop $300+ on a new monitor every 2 years when one with new features comes on the market, I used my last monitor since 2007. No need to be rude.
