No compatible monitor found (XL2411Z)

I'm connecting via a HDMI out on my laptop, and I can see my computer on the monitor but I get that error message. I have installed the "pivot" software from the CD, but I don't think that's anything to do with the drivers.
Don't know what to do

I feel it worth mentioning that I had an older version of the strobe utility installed, and after plugging the monitor in the first time the utility recognized the monitor.
Regrettably I thought it a good idea to install the latest version of the software and it now doesn't work
So why did it work with the older version of the software? I've also just tried connecting via d-sub and the result is the same. I've checked the driver and this is what it says when connected via d-sub:
