Does anybody know if nVidia ever released a firmware update for the DIY kit? I'm curious since I recently learned that the retail G-Sync monitors have improved functionality at <30 fps and it would be nice to have that on the VG248QE as well.

Yeah, it sure would. The VG248QE is terrible at sub 30 fps. If I know I'm going to be dropping under 30 fps, then I use 144hz no vsync. The lego movie video game give noticible hitching just slightly under 30 fps at times loading minor assets, and it's perfectly fine with no gsync no vsync. But with gsync it's even worse than vsync, since you're looking at rapid drops from 30 fps to 15 fps, instead of drops from other multiples as you would do with regular double buffer vsync at a higher refresh.

I doubt there will be. Even if there a new firmware, there probably wouldn't be any way to flash it.

I really hope they can make an adaptive gsync, with just disables all sync and lets it tear under 30 fps

You mean 30fps to 24fps.

I wish. It might be on the other gsync monitors, if they somehow got them to flick to regular 144hz sync when it drops under 30 fps, but not on the kit form VG248QE. It runs at 30hz as its minimum refresh and syncs to half of that when it drops under, ie 15 fps. Same way you'd get a drop from 60 fps to 30 fps with regular 60hz sync.

Make sure v-sync is set to 'off' in g-sync mode.

That graph averages frame rates out, so rapid flicking between 15 and 30 fps would show that.
