Image is too dark

hello guys

i bought a Benq XL2411Z monitor and im having a hard time setting it up...
after many reading on this forum and some vids on youtube i managed to set the monitor up in order to have almost none ghosting, but the thing is my image is just to dark, not much in desktop but a lot in games, fifa and dayz, thats what im playing atm.

so my current settings are:

PC: i7 with gtx 970
Nvidia CP: Brightness 52%; Contrast 45%; Gamma 0,70; Digital Vibrance 70%;
Monitor: Brightness 100; Contrast 49; Low Blue light 0; Blur Reduction ON; Color Temperature Normal; AMA High; Instant Mode On; Sharpness 5; Gamma 5;

what am i doing wrong? anyone can help me?

What PERSISTENCE values (Strobe duty) are you using?
you can check the service menu for the strobe duty value, or use the windows utility, but the utility numbers are based on having a Vertical Total 1350 tweak (or VT 1500) active.

If you are not using a VT tweak, the strobe duty values correspond to the following persistence settings depending on the refresh rate:
(lower persistence= more blur reduction= smoother image= darker screen)
(Higher persistence=less blur reduction=more blurry=brighter screen)

ms= "pulse width" (how long the backlight cycles on/off in a complete cycle), milliseconds

LightBoost mode at 100 Hz 1.88 ms (minimum), 3 ms (maximum)
Lightboost mode at 120 hz: 1.4 ms, 2.25 ms
Benq MBR 60 Hz : 0.167 ms (minimum)- 5 ms (maximum), 30 steps, 0.167ms per step. (0.167 x 30=5.01).
Benq MBR 100 Hz : 0.1 ms - 3 ms, 30 steps.
Benq MBR 120 Hz : 0.08 ms - 2.5 ms, 30 steps
Benq MBR 144 Hz : 0.07 ms - 2.1 ms, 30 steps...

The presence of ANY vertical total tweak beyond Lightboost range (1138/1143/1149 VT for 100 hz, 110 hz and 120hz Nvidia lightboost mode), forces the monitor to use the 60 hz pulse widths, so the 60hz table is used for a VT 1350 or VT 1500 tweak.

my image is now very good in desktop. i can use my browser and the colors are great and the white is perfect too.
but ingames everything is diferent :S when i play fifa the game is still too dark no mather what settings i use. if i play the game with window mode, game is no longer dark...what can it be?

That's a clear sign that the game is changing the refresh rate, so it's going back to the normal Vertical Total at that refresh rate. Try looking for a refresh rate option, ini tweak, etc. If there isn't any option for that and the game uses DX9, you can force the refresh rate with GeDoSaTo. Last option: borderless fullscreen.

If the screen switches resolution and turns dark (you can tell if you bring up the OSD before you launch a game, then the OSD vanishes when the game starts---set OSD timeout to 30 seconds so you have time), you can check the OSD information tab to see what the refresh rate shows. VT tweaks will report 60 hz because the monitor always uses the 60 hz backlight "pulse widths" (persistence values) if a VT Tweak is active (even if it's not really running at 60 hz; I explained that above). But the fullproof way to check if it changed refresh rate is to check the "picture advanced->display mode" menu. If 1:1 is greyed out but aspect is NOT greyed out, then a VT Tweak is always active. (Aspect being available and 1:1 greyed out is abnormal behavior and ONLY happens if a VT tweak is making the monitor run out of specifications). the monitor gets confused by the VT tweak and being forced to 60 hz pulse widths); Trying to use the aspect setting will not work correctly (it will shrink a 1920x1080 screen)

If aspect AND 1:1 are BOTH greyed out, then you either do NOT have a VT Tweak at that refresh rate, or you are using 144 hz (144 hz disables all "display mode" aspect settings).

That's good.
Yeah if aspect and 1:1 are both greyed out, it means you are using a normal 1920x1080 setting that does NOT have a vertical total tweak.

Basically, when you are running at native resolution, 1920x1080, the aspect settings should all be disabled, but the monitor resizing options (17", 19", 21.5" etc) should all still work (I don't know if they work at 144 hz ,they probably do NOT).

But when a VT tweak is active, the monitor gets confused and switches to 60 hz backlight pulse widths.
I think what is really happening is it thinks its using a different resolution also.

If you use version 4 firmware and enter the service menu, you will see a strange resolution.
the OSD will show 1920x1080@60 hz when a VT Tweak is active at any refresh rate (144 hz can't use VT tweaks). and the monitor uses 60hz backlight persistence pulse widths.

But the reason that aspect is working but 1:1 is disabled is, I think it's because when a VT tweak is active, despite the OSD showing 1920x1080, I think something is making the monitor think it's running at 1280x1440@60.

That's why aspect becomes available and if you select it, 1920x1080 turns into a 1280 sized screen. And 1:1 is disabled because the vertical pixel size is higher than the capacity of the screen (1440).
I think this is because of the VT tweak. The VT changes from 1125 to 1502, so the monitor sees a '1457 vertical pixel size' instead of 1080. It can't identify 1457 so it shows 1440 which is the closest standard resolution.

yeah i got it now...
on nvidia control panel i had to change "prefered refresh rate" to highest avaliable.
downside is, i get a bit more of ghosting now
