GtG response times question

I was asked a question whilst discussing 144hz monitors.

The question was, if you set a 144hz, 1ms response time, TN panel monitor (Asus ROG Swift) next to a 144 hz, 5ms response time, IPS monitor (Acer XB270HU) would you be able to see the smear on the IPS display?

If they were both at 144 fps, while spinning as fast as possible in CSGO?

I realized that while there is obviously a difference that is measureable, would you actually be able to tell the difference?

I'm sure you would be able to see a difference, but perhaps not as much as you might think.
With flicker-free LCDs, most of the motion blur we see is caused by persistence rather than slow panel response times.

Now if one display used ULMB and another did not (can you even combine those?) you would see a stark difference in the amount of motion blur and flicker, but I'm not sure that it matters much if you're comparing a good IPS and a good TN panel these days. The TN panel will have less motion blur, but perhaps not significantly less.

I'm kind of on the same boat here. I'm stuck between the BenQ 2430 and the 144hz Asus IPS. Do people still use lightboost? I don't think the IPS has lightboost how much would that impact blur reduction.

just ignore the numbers and look at visual comparisons on tftcentral and
1ms is often only achieved with stupid amounts of overshoot... this actually makes the settling time even longer
