ASUS PG279Q giving different performance with Display port c

Hello, i have a serious and annoying problem with using my monitor with GTX980 TI and displayport cables.
I have 2 cables one bought from Accell through Amazon and the other that came stock with the monitor.
The problem is there is difference in picture and gameplay through these 2 cables.
One cable (Accell) gives faster response time in FPS games and less ghosting and more motion clarity with lesser picture stage sort of speak. The stock cable that came with monitor has more ghosting and lag in response time but gives more depth in pictures, more detail , and more 3dness in games and immersion. Picture looks more fleshed out and stretched out in a good way compared to the other cable.
Both cables are running at 165hz and not having any connection problems like not losing sync etc. But since im having such different experiences with thes 2 cables i am thinking one cable is not supporting upto 165hz.
What is a common indicator for a higher refresh rate? What is the correct cable to use? This is driving me nuts. Thanks for any help!
