Hello there, first time posting here!

Trying to get the best balance on performance and image quality on my games, I am thinking what the best option for me would be, and I have a question, @100hz is there any compromise on the gameplay on FPS games? Is there any relation to the total refresh being a mutiple of 60hz (120hz etc) on the way the game reads your commands or it doesnt matter?


My rig (i5 6600k@4,5hz 980ti) can handle 100hz very well, and I honestly notice about nothing from 100hz to 120hz, but if it oscilates a lot I do notice it, so I am thinking about setting the desktop to 100hz and configure my games around it.

So the question resumed, should I keep it at 100hz that stays very solid with great image quality or is it better to play at 120hz with lower quality image for the sake of input response?

Refresh rate doesn't impact framerate unless v-sync is on.

Isn't that a 144hz monitor?
Higher refresh rate means each tear is on screen for a lower amount of time. (vsync off)
Or it reduces the judder caused by mismatched refresh and framerate (fullscreen windowed)
Or it reduces latency somewhat (v-sync on)

I don't know any games where it impacts how the game reads user input, but it can impact how long it takes that impact to make its way through the render pipeline. G-sync/freesync aside, higher refresh rates are always better for smooth animation.

It actualy does in many games you can limit the framerate maximum to your display setting, in my case I can limit it to 120 as it is set now, but it oscilates from 100 to 120, I can get it stable at 100hz but I can only lock some games to it (so it wont fluctuate) if I set the monitor refresh rate to 100hz.

You can set a framerate cap regardless of what your refresh rate is.

Are you using vsync, fullscreen windowed, or vsync off?

The main problem with framerate caps is that they're usually not synchronized perfectly to refresh rate, so you drop or gain a frame every few seconds.

You might try putting your refresh rate at 144 and capping framerate to 72, in the games where you can't hit 100fps.

You mean to cap ingame or outside of it? Most games I play only let me cap at 30-60-120 O.o

In game framerate caps are best, but sometimes you don't get a choice.

One extra thing is that I can actualy get a better color calibration at 100hz than at 120-144hz not sure why, at the lagom lcd tests my results are better the lower the refresh rate is...
