I guess putting a monitor in VR works too?

Theoretically, that's a potentially great way to bypass motion blur!

The showstopper would be the refresh rate lock of Rift VR to 90 Hz for low-persistence mode. It would be necessary to switch the Rift to a 60Hz low-persistence mode, which doesn't seem to exist (At the moment) to piggyback off this idea.

The alternative is to wait for a future VR headset that uses 120 Hz low-persistence, and simply use black frame insertion to blank-out every other refresh cycle, for effective 60 Hz low-persistence. (This is how you can get low-persistence 60 Hz via using 120 Hz LightBoost in some emulators, when enabling black frame insertion feature).
