Hello,


i bought recently Dell Alienware AW2518HF, previously was using BenQ XL2411z (for like 5 years) was super happy about that monitor.


What i notice right now is, at 240hz when i go to a different games where my FPS are not going to be constant around 200-240 i notice the screen to be somehow laggy? Or maybe not laggy, but i think its not smooth as before on my BENQ XL2411z. Like is it normal? I can't test it, since i sold my XL2411z before i bought this new Dell AW2518hf


I think that in my 144hz Benq monitor that didnt happen before. AW2518hf might be good but i think only playing CS:GO right? other games like R6 siege or mmos where you stick around 100-140 fps wont be a big of a difference? what guys do you think?


And my main question is, does good 144hz panels like (benq xl2441p) have lower input lags than 240hz monitors (like this AW2518HF) ?

Im so confused. Dont know if shouldn't i return my AW2518HF(240hz) and go for a 2411p(144hz) (newer version with displayport connection)

i kinda miss my black equalizer that on zowie is perfect, and blue light reduction. But the main case for me is low latency to be more competitive.

What do you guys think? Playing competitively cs;go and r6 at high ranks. Can't really decide.

It's hard to answer your question because there's so many factors:

(1) Absolute latency
(2) Scanout latency
(3) Latency consistency of various modes (VSYNC ON/OFF/GSYNC/FreeSync/Fast Sync/etc)
(4) Stutter feel
(5) Motion blur
(6) Stutter's contribution to latency and motion blur (The continuum seen at http://www.testufo.com/vrr ...)
(7) Stutter harmonic-frequency and beat-frequency effects. 144fps@144Hz VSYNC OFF can feel smoother than 200fps@240Hz VSYNC OFF. Likewise, 245fps@144Hz can sometimes feel smoother than 245fps@240Hz (245 MODULUS 240 equals 5 stutters per second).

Also:
-- You can achieve Black Equalizer by using raise Contrast/Brightness in NVIDIA Control Panel
-- You can achieve Low Blue Light via Windows 10 Night Mode on any monitor

Also, some people see minor motion-blur imperfections of 240Hz monitors as some of the overdrive on some of them are not well-tuned at lower frame rates (e.g. 144fps on a 240Hz monitor has more ghosting/blur). This shouldn't be a problem with the best 240Hz monitors, but everyone is sensitive to different things -- blurs, stutters, tearing, colors, etc.

Even for 144fps, keep your 240Hz monitor at 240Hz. Doing 144fps@144Hz has more lag than 144fps@240Hz, even if there's more stutter.

Also, if you play very stuttery games, consider FreeSync (GSYNC Compatible) + framerate cap (~3fps below max Hz of FreeSync/GSYNC range) -- to improve your aiming. Many competition gamers will tell you FreeSync/GSYNC adds lag but strategic use can eliminate most/all of that lag, and improve aiming in the very stutteriest games (e.g. PUBG instead of CS:GO) since bad stutters throw off aiming. "perfect-consistent-but-slightly-higher" lag can be superior to "lower-but-super-erratic" lag. Absolute lag isn't the whole story.

Nontheless, that NVIDIA survey (measured from thousands of users) show will score better with a properly-adjusted 240Hz monitor for the most part. However, skills can outweigh the 144Hz vs 240Hz difference for many. You might want to choose a lower-lag 240Hz monitor that has reportedly lots of kudos such as the ASUS XG248Q or similar -- I hear good anecdotes about it being really fast for a 240Hz monitor with less problems at lower frame rates.

That said, the XL2411P is a kick-ass 144Hz monitor in its very flexible low-latency motion blur reduction features too.

Also, DisplayPort sometimes has slightly more lag (sub-1ms more) than DVI, though that is probably not your problem factor. Variances between monitor models are much bigger than variances between ports.

Also apart from the technical aspects once you have a taste of higher refresh rates it will feel bad having to play lower .

Ok, so lets face the problem.

Is it better to play around 150-180fps (since thats how much im usually getting on Apex, and most modern games) on 240hz monitor, or its better to have constant 144fps on 144hz monitor? (in the competitive meanings)

Im so confused, dont know if should i keep 240hz monitor or go back to 144hz.
