Hello there,
So ive read the whole g sync 101 guide but it feels off..
Asus pg278qr 165hz g-sync
2080ti
V sync ingame off
V sync off nvcp
G sync off
Frame cap @162
Low latency on ultra
Game feels super snappy, mouse movements are crisp. But got tearings
Turned on
V sync in game off
V sync nvcp on
G sync fullscreen on
Low latency set to ON
Framerate capped to 162hz
Game feels almost if I'm drunk, not snappy! I feel an less responsive mouse, wth I thought this setting gave me Less input lag and better frame times but It gave me the complete opposite.., oh got zero tearing with this setting lol
Please help!
Grtz

I already approved and answered your comments in my article, but since you've started a thread, you can disregard those, and we can continue the discussion here...

To start, what games are you experiencing this in? What FPS limiter are you using? And do you have the game(s) set to (exclusive) fullscreen or borderless?

Have this issue in bf1
Use fullscreen, and set the cap in console with command line to 162hz , rival tuner is disabled in game

I think it’s the v sync that gives me that feeling bc I used g sync before and never experienced this kind of laggy gameplay
With my recommended settings (G-SYNC + NVCP V-SYNC + LLM "On" + 162 FPS limit), the V-SYNC setting doesn't add input lag when using G-SYNC, so I don't know what else to tell you on that.
There's an easy way to test this though: turn V-SYNC off in the NVCP, and use G-SYNC + LLM "On" + 162 FPS in-game limit instead.
It's possible you're simply too conditioned/used to using standalone V-SYNC off, which can feel different than G-SYNC, even with the same input lag levels.

I think that's the case , but bc it felt so slow and not snappy I thought I did something wrong.
I will try without v sync and see how that feels
But to be clear g sync with frame cap is always better then no sync with frame cap?

By "better" what do you mean?
If you mean lower latency, then no, V-SYNC OFF + unlimited framerate will always (theoretically) have less raw input lag than any syncing method, including G-SYNC.
I never said in my article otherwise. The closest I got was saying that your framerate has to exceed your refresh rate by at least 2-3 times to even come close to reducing input lag over G-SYNC at any appreciable level.
For instance, say in BF1, standalone V-SYNC Off + 300 FPS limit has (at most) a 1-3ms input lag reduction at crosshair-level over G-SYNC + V-SYNC + 162 FPS limit.
To be clear,
tearing is your literal (and only) input lag reduction over properly configured G-SYNC, which is the lowest input lag single, tear-free frame delivery can have; any faster frame delivery
requires tearing.

By "better" what do you mean?, i mean better frametimes and lag, but i understand it now thnx, i was looking for the perfect formula
so my lag and frametimes was the absolute lowest and tearing almost gone , btw does tearing affect sensitivity of the mouse?

Even with standalone V-SYNC OFF and FPS above the refresh rate, you can still improve frametime consistency and reduce input lag further with an FPS limit that prevents max GPU usage (GPU input lag is a thing too due to pre-rendered frames), so long as your system can sustain that the framerate at the FPS limit 99% of the time.

No, not directly, but it affects how fast your mouse inputs reflect on the display. V-SYNC OFF tears because it delivers parts of multiple frames (in "slices") in a single scanout cycle, whereas any syncing method delivers one complete (top to bottom) frame per scanout cycle.
Again, the differences "in feel" between the two methods can be more easily noticed if you're conditioned to one or the other. So even though G-SYNC is tear-free, has smoother, more consistent frame delivery, and virtually the same input lag at the same framerate as V-SYNC OFF, the latter may still feel more "correct" or "snappier" to you if that's what you're used to.
Oh, and one last thing to be sure. Have you verified that G-SYNC is actually engaged in-game?

I select g-sync in nvcp and choose to g-sync "fullscreen" , however i never get an indicator on my screen that g-sync is active in game as some other people over here who see an g sync logo

You need to use exclusive fullscreen mode in the game, not borderless. If you're playing a game that only has borderless, then you need to enable windowed g-sync mode.
