Hi, I discovered yesterday that any monitor can be overclocked, so can I overclock mine?

I know 144hz is already OK, but If I could reach 150 or even 160hz that would be awesome, but I don't want to damage my monitor.

USING THE CRU TOOL
If I create a new custom resolucion in which:
1. The resolution is 1280x720
2. As the resolution is lower I am going to increase refresh rate from 144hz to more than 175hz maybe, because the pixel clock when is 720p@200hz (228.39 Mhz) is even lower than 1080p@144hz (346.55 Mhz), and the frecuency is also lower (158.604 khz).

3. So going from 1080p@144hz to 720p@200hz or 720p@175hz would be safe?

I've tried, and it won't work
This is because the existing circuit connected on the LCD panel (referred to as the "TCON"), is currently unable to push more than about 144 panel refreshes per second. So even if you stay under the dotclock limit, whatever's directly attached to your panel (ribbon cable to the LCD glass) is currently being the limiting factor, as it must scale everything and then refresh faster.

However, the circuit can be replaced (with a replacement circuit board) to run the panel at true 240Hz. cirthix successfully did this -- he posted in Area 51. However, this is an electronics engineering league thing and not practical for the average person.

Alternatively, if it's motion clarity you're more concerned about, have you considered enabling LightBoost instead? There is less motion blur with CRT 75fps @ 75Hz, than with LCD 120fps @ 120Hz. The same principle occurs with LightBoost. LightBoost is a strobe backlight that eliminates motion blur, by turning off the backlight between refresh cycles. Motion blur reducing strobe-backlight LCD's get about 80-95% less motion blur than a regular LCD. LightBoost already has clearer motion than a flickerfree 240Hz LCD. You get CRT motion clarity; it is like having a 120Hz CRT.

Some time ago I tried the "Strobelight - LightBoost Utility" by ToastyX and it Worked, but the screen was very dark. Even with the monitor brightness to the maximum and the brightness of the program maxed out also.

The Lightboost Brightness was set to 100%, despite I had less motion blur than before it wasn't set at 10%, which is the best.
So, I prefer 144hz because the input lag is a bit better than 120hz and the screen is not so dark, but I'd love to play without motion blur, because it's a big shit.

I have heard that 2560x1440p monitors can be overclocked to 80 or 90hz, is that true? Which one would you recommend me?
Is there something like 1440p@120hz?

There's 120Hz available at 1440p if you don't mind overclocking.
I've listed a few overclockable monitors in the List of 120Hz Monitors.

The two 120Hz 1440p standouts are:
- Overlord Tempest X270OC -- More expensive, uses IPS panel, has USA warranty, better color and less image retention at 120Hz
- QNIX QX2710 Evolution 2 -- Cheaper, Korean import PLS, popular, slightly lower success rate, image retention.

However, there is more motion blur on these 120Hz monitors, than non-LightBoost 144Hz, because the pixel transitions on these displays are slower than all of the TN 144Hz monitors. Also, the higher resolution will lead to lower frame rates on your existing GPU, affecting input lag & motion clarity. Ideally, you'll want to double up your GPU to roughly maintain the existing framerates that you already get right now. Your motion clarity will not improve much beyond around 96Hz, so many QNIX users run at only 1440p@96Hz rather than 1440p@120Hz.

These are excellent options, extra resolution and better colors, just make sure you're aware of the tradeoffs.

There are also ways to get a better LightBoost-like effect, too. If you want bright colorful LightBoost without a dim picture, also consider Turbo240 on the Eizo FG2421. Currently, it is my favourite strobe-backlight monitor when the GPU is capable of consistent triple-digit frame rate gaming. It is more expensive, but a good monitor if you wanted a good compromise for brightness/color/CRT clarity.
