So iv been facing this weird issue for a while now. I get it very randomly and it happens once a brief 1 second black screen the same effect as when you turn off and turn on g sync. I have the alienware aw3420dw. This is The b third monitor from dell for that monitor i had some weird vertical lines issues on the other two. This one has been pretty solid but the black screen. I changed 3 display port cables so far. I did rma my gpu which is the asus rog 2080 ti. I did use ddu to uninstall and install my drivers. What else should i do? It never happened during gaming. Only in windows.its not a big of an issue i can deal with it.. but if its something serious i need to act let me know. And worth to note it happens very randomly and i cant duplicate it.[*]

Hello,
The black-out-only-during-VRR is something that I have occasionally seen in variable refresh rate technologies — usually a monitor accidentally going out of VRR range (e.g. frametimes too long).
The most important clue is if those black screen moments are timed with certain moments such as bringing up a game menu or other specific action.
But you say you only see it during Windows, and not during gaming? Weird.
Try this:
— Do you see any patterns, such as it only occuring when you maximize a window, or FullScreen a window?
— Is G-SYNC for windowed enabled? Try turning that off temporarily.

could you solve the problem?
I am having the same issues with same monitor and a 2080ti
it happens when i start a game or switch between full screen and windowed.
this would not be a problem but since a few days i am having short black screens when gaming.
this is the second ultrawide screen where this happens...so am I just unlucky?
the first one was a model by asus which i sent back because I thought it had to be an issue with the screen.

Black screen during switching is normal
Black screens when switching between fullscreen and windowed is normal; it is usually unavoidable for a lot of situations unless your Windows settings and game settings are exactly the same. In some cases you can avoid the fullscreen-vs-windowed flickering if the settings of Windows and the settings of the game is absolutely identical (same Hz, same sync tech, same resolution, same everything). Black flickering can be caused by a resolution change OR refresh change OR sync change (VRR on/off), etc. This is normal.
Black screen mid-game is wrong
However, black frames mid-gaming is not good -- this is usually a framerate going below VRR range and the LFC not kicking in. Driver bugs can do this, are you using the latest GPU drivers? Alternatively, you can also use ToastyX and edit the VRR range to raise the minimum from 48Hz to perhaps about ~55Hz. This solves the black flicker problem for many people. Another option is disabling FreeSync / G-SYNC.

And if all else fails, try rolling back to this driver temporarily to see if it resolves anything:

The past couple of drivers have been problematic for G-SYNC Compatible FreeSync displays, and they're still apparently working on it.
