Recently I've been trying out a few 144hz monitors to see which one my eyes can handle. I have a sensitivity to how bright these things are sometimes, even at very low brightness levels. I've recently settled on the LG 24GL650-B. I have the color and brightness adjusted perfectly and I'm overall very happy with it.
However, I've noticed that in some games, I notice a small amount of either freesync or brightness flickering in menus. I've had this with almost all of the monitors I've tried so far, so I swapped to this DP cable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0098 ... UTF8&psc=1). The game I notice the flickering in the most is the current alpha of Torchlight 3. It's definitely brightness flickering in the corners but it could also be because the game is in an alpha state. I also notice some screen flickering in the menus of Destiny 2 and sometimes flickering in game. Other games like CS GO, GTAV, Doom 2016, Grim Dawn, etc are all completely flawless. Edit: I get flickering in all parts of PUBG until I turn G-Sync off in the NVCP. This solves the issue completely.
My build and settings are a 9600k (no overclock yet), MSI 1660ti (no OC), 16gb Corsair RAM, EVGA 850w PSU. On the LG monitor I am using Fast response time, Freesync Extended, and I follow the BlurBusters guide for the best GSync/Freesync settings in NVCP. I've tried many different monitor settings and those specific problems still exist. What I am wondering is if this is just an NVidia driver issue as it seems to be or should I be sending back yet another monitor? I kinda don't want to because I finally found one I like. Turning off GSync but leaving 144hz/Freesync on in my monitor OSD seems to fix it all but I don't want to have to do that.

Re: Brightness flickering in some games but not all
Update: I changed to using NVIDIA's frame limiter through the control panel and turned off in-game FPS limiters. COD MW was extremely smooth with no brightness flickering except in map transitions and menus where the FPS can sometimes tank. It's a known issue with the game. However I do feel like my mouse was less responsive (G502 Lightspeed Wireless) using the NVCP limiter but it could be in my head.
I was considering swapping this out one last time and getting the Viewsonic XG2402 but I don't want to have the same issues.

Re: Brightness flickering in some games but not all
In-game limiters usually have a bit lower latency, so I'd say it's not in your head:

Re: Brightness flickering in some games but not all
At this point I think we need a PSA from all the tech sites telling people not to buy freesync monitors that are not certified by nvidia for gsync compatibility for use with nvidia GPUs. Its going to hurt the perception of VRR for years with all the issues.
If its not on nvidias list, and you have a nvidia GPU, don't buy it because disappointment is likely.

Re: Brightness flickering in some games but not all
Are you creating a custom ICC profile or changing NVIDIA colour settings for each monitor you're using? Games will sometimes implement their own gamma settings and need to overridden by disabling fullscreen optimisations for the application.
This should disappear over time and more and more games properly move over to a fully compliant version of windowed fullscreen/borderless windowed mode due to the depreciation of exclusive fullscreen mode in Windows 10.
Based on your follow-up post, this probably isn't it, but it's still worth confirming.

Re: Brightness flickering in some games but not all
I appreciate all the advice so far. I am not really messing around with ICC stuff at all. This is what my display settings look like:

I'm not sure why it's at 143hz here and 144hz elsewhere. I'm assuming it doesn't matter? I've updated my monitor drivers to the ones from LG.

I'm not sure what to do next. I'm considering sending this back and just paying the extra money for the Acer XB241H since it's an actual GSYNC monitor. Everything I read about this LG said it's compatible but on the NVIDIA site it's not even listed. Sure wish I would have seen that list before.
