240Hz IPS worse in games compare to my previous 144Hz TN monitor?

Hello,

I dont understand why I do play better on my 144hz TN monitor with a better motion blur (no ELMB) than on my 240hz IPS panel with little less motion blur (no ELMB).

My avg fps is 160, thats why I thought that 240hz IPS gives me nothing compare to a little bit better smooth.

Also colors in game are better at my TN panel, IPS colors are great only for movies, photos.

I have 6 days to ship back the 240Hz IPS and i still dont know which one I should keep.

One guy told me that I need to get used to the 240hz smoothness. But every time I switch back to TN for couple of games I almost win all of them and I see enemies much faster even if I checked on https://www.testufo.com/mprt
and my TN has highest response time:

IPS:

But isnt the response time lower if the fps are also lower? So I could actually have higher response time on 144hz IPS compare to 144hz TN

240Hz IPS = ASUS TUF VG259QM
144hz TN = LG 24GM79G
both 1080p

I play Cod MW.

You guyys think i should keep the asus? or just stay with 144hz TN if I do not get stable 230+ fps

There are multiple potential reasons for this; which may or may not be the monitor's fault.

1. Your eyes are attuned to the pixel response of TN panels (lack of ghosting/coronas); or

2. The lag of LG ends up less than ASUS; or
(The laggiest 240Hz panels can be laggier than the fastest 144Hz panels.)

3. Familiarity effects / latency training effects / What people call "muscle memory". Sudden change in latency (even downwards!) can throw people off, it takes time to train towards it. Sometimes weeks.

4. Frame rate too low to really take advantage of 240Hz. Getting only 160fps at 240Hz may not be enough to compensate for other factors such as (1) or (2).

You don't need 240Hz to benefit from 240Hz. For example, you like a VRR technology, 100fps VRR at 240Hz is lower lag than 100fps VRR at 144Hz. Lag differences are less with VSYNC OFF (which I imagine you are probably using?) -- so it is easier for performance venn diagrams to overlap. That said, you also simultaneously changed panel technology (IPS to TN), so determining what is throwing you off, is hard to say at this juncture.

I have this same feeling but with my 144hz s2716dgr and cheap v226hql ocd to 75 hz
Even tho the 75hz has less motion clarity, it still feels more responsive than the 144hz in osu and fps games

I've tried multiple systems and cables too so it must be a mental/eye thing

It also could be because the size of the panel is smaller.

they are both the same, 24,5 inch.
for 1080p i dont like any higher like 27 inch, due to PPI, I didn't bought VG279QM, I bought VG259QM

How do you work with FPS cap?

As shown in this video https://youtu.be/7CKnJ5ujL_Q
There could be big difference in latency with capped FPS vs noncapped FPS.

I capped my fps only at 218 fps
I know this video but I do not have more than 97% gpu bound in game. only 99% gives huge input lag, so I leave it. Because either 166 fps or 218 i still have 97% gpu bound max.

I doesnt run any v-sync /g sync, I use NULL at ultra - because I heard its good to use at gpu bound games like COD MW is it

I had the same situation with all my previous 240hz TN panels: XL 2540, AW2518HF, XF252QX, LG 27GK750F

Everytime I started to play with 240hz my confidence in CS GO was lost. And I always returned to my old Asus VG248QE 144hz.

But now I have VG279QM and it's dissapeared from the first game, before I connected this with input lag of previous 240hz TN panels, but probably fps has the influence also, because I have 300 fps and I feel I can play better now with VG279QM than VG248QE.

It definitely takes a while to get used to. I play csgo as well as the poster above and it took me ages to get used to it, and I still ended up going back to my 144hz and returning the 240hz. That being said I did buy the cheapest one and it felt like it had input lag. Going to wait until all these new panels come out and buy the one with lowest input lag.
