I get noticable coronas/inverse ghosting in the ghosting test but in games everything looks good
On my highest overdrive level available on my monitor I get coronas (the blue trailing behind the ufo) in the bottom two 'blocks' and on my second highest overdrive there are no coronas just very slight ghosting however in game the highest overdrive level looks much more clearer when on the other hand the second highest overdrive level makes the game look kind of gray or blurry when moving the camera around. When comparing the overdrive levels I thought the second highest one would be better as the ufos looked better so can anyone tell me why I'm experiencing this? Also, is the ghosting test supposed to be a simulation of how much ghosting/artifacts you would see when playing games or have I assumed wrong?

Most games are too busy-looking to easily see ghosting. Also, ghosting is often partially hidden by stutters (framerate-mismatch-Hz).fowteen wrote: ↑14 May 2020, 16:04On my highest overdrive level available on my monitor I get coronas (the blue trailing behind the ufo) in the bottom two 'blocks' and on my second highest overdrive there are no coronas just very slight ghosting however in game the highest overdrive level looks much more clearer when on the other hand the second highest overdrive level makes the game look kind of gray or blurry when moving the camera around. Ghosting/coronas is more visible in some games (contrasty colors of Borderlands 2) than other games (subdued hues of a pale desert CS:GO map)
If you do framerate=Hz (VSYNC ON), use high saturation (Digital Vibrance, Saturation 100), use contrasty game (Borderlands 2), and keep framerate high, and watch the panning/turning/scrolling motions (TestUFO smooth panning, not crosshairs-gaze-style), you will see similar artifacts.
It's not a simulation.
However, TestUFO is intended to provide worst-case colors that amplify visibility of ghosting. This is intentional to make ghosting/coronas easier to see. However, it is visible in games too.
Also, remember to use same settings in game versus desktop (e.g. fixed-Hz 144Hz in Desktop, versus fixed-Hz 144Hz in game, same overdrive setting, same picture settings). Overdrive settings can change at different Hz, different resolution, different profile, different VRR setting (VRR versus VSYNC ON/OFF).
TestUFO ghosting can be better or worse depending on the setting.
