Nvidia 2080 Ti 240fps/hz FORTNITE Specific Settings

Post by Joel D » 24 Jun 2020, 01:57

Hi, I am hoping to catch any Blurbuster here that is also a serious Fortnite Player using a Nvidia 2080 ti. Because I'd like to know the optimal settings you use to achieve 240fps/hz rock solid with the highest graphic settings you can do to still have it be smooth.

My issue so far is, I had it set up perfect so I thought. But recently I started getting kinda slight choppy/stutter like looking panning when I turn. Came out of nowhere. So the reason I want a Fortnite player to help is because the Nvidia settings also have to play off the best in game settings for a awesome result.

Here are my settings that was working fine, I was getting good (enough) graphical appearance, but mainly I was rock solid 240fps and smooth as butter playing. Lately that has changed and I've done nothing different. Now in FN the FPS meter fluctuates like crazy.

Nvidia CP Settings:

Adjust Image Settings With Preview:
Set "Use My Preference Emphasizing" to "Performance", then
Tick the "Use the Advanced 3D Image Settings"
(Hit Apply)

Manage 3D Settings:

Image Sharpening: Sharpening Off, Scaling Disabled
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Anisotropic Filtering: Off
Antialiasing - FXAA: Off
Antialiasing - Gamma Correction: On
Antialiasing Mode: Off
Antialiasing - Setting: None (greyed out)
Antialiasing - Transparency: Off (greyed out)
CUDA - GPUs: All
DSR - Factors: Off
DSR - Smoothness: Off (greyed out)
Low Latency Mode: Ultra
Max Frame Rate: Off
Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA): Off
OpenGL Rendering GPU: Auto-Select
Power Management Mode: Prefer Maximum Performance
Preferred Refresh Rate (Microstep MSI MAG): Application-Controlled
Shader Cache: On
Texture Filtering - Quality: High Performance
Texture Filtering - Trilinear Optimization: On
Threaded Optimization: Auto
Triple Buffering: Off
Vertical Sync: Off
Virtual Reality Pre-Rendered Frames: 1
Virtual Reality - Variable Rate Super Samp..: Off

Fortnite In-Game Settings:
(the ones that matter to this subject)

Window Mode: Fullscreen
Resolution: 1920x1080 16:9
Frame Rate: 240fps
3D Resolution: 100%
View Distance: Far
Shadows: Off
Antialiasing: Medium
Textures: Low
Effects: Low
Post Processing: Low
V-Sync: Off
Motion Blur: Off
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Allow MultiThreaded Rendering: On
Use GPU Cash Debugging: Off
Matchmaking Region: Auto

Computer Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i9-9900K 8C/16T 5.0Ghz
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080Ti (Asus Rog Strixx O11G)
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z390-E
Memory: G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR 3600mhz 32Gb
Drive: Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 NVME SSD

So this beast should be able to handle anything really. And all settings are set to overly favor performance (so I thought). So what is going on ? Please help -

I'm assuming you updated windows recently? (and didn't make the connection). A bloated windows 10 can put any hardware to shame.

Debloat your windows, there are many scripts available for it (I personally did mine manually with iobit unlocker however.) Turn cortana and windows defender off. If you're worried about virus, browse the internet with ublock origin (and no its not just an adblocker fyi), don't run fishy files, scan them with malwarebytes if needed.

Also when updating gpu drivers always uninstall with DDU first, overwriting on top of current drivers can cause problems. From the info you've given it honestly could be anything, but what I described above are some very common causes of performance issues so they're worth trying.

I bet it is either laggy servers or you have some process in the background. Run latencymon in the background of 1 of your rounds and see if anything pops out. Good luck.

So my Windows 10 is brand new. I have another computer for all my other stuff, so I have never and will never use this computer for any net surfing, downloads, etc.. Its as clean as you can get for sure.

Xidax from where I bought it gave me the lightest running Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware there is. And I've ran them every time after downloading say the game, or any driver needed for mouse/keyboard/monitor/etc..

My Graphics card has not needed a updated driver yet, so I haven't done that, but thanks for the heads up. What is DDU ?

I definitely went through my entire computer when I first got it and did several of the things you recommended though. Like everything I don't need for gaming is OFF. I mean everything. I even disabled Wireless, cause I'll never use it on this computer. Cortana (anyone find that eerie close to Corona?) I shut off, Windows Defender Off, etc.. And I went into all the things I had to install (Roccat mouse and keyboard driver Swarm, Razor Headset driver, Steam, Epic Games Launcher, etc..) and made SURE they do not run in the background. I even disabled them to launch at startup. I turned off all background running apps not needed and turned off P2P too.

I have narrowed this down to either a ISP/Fortnite/internet server issue. Or some settings I have are conflicting with some other settings. (Like one thing making pre rendered frames 1 another making it something else ?IDK) which is why I came here to see if anyone else running FortNite and getting rock solid 240fps thats smooth could compare settings with me ?

MaxTendency, I was reading articles online about how to make your internet faster on Windows 10. One thing was pretty involved (as this is my first PC, I'm a Mac dude) so I am scared to try this stuff.

1) it was Installing a script that would give me something called Group Policy Editor on my Home edition, which normally only Professional has - then going and setting that tells Windows to put aside 0 bandwidth for updates, as its default is set to 20% bandwidth, meaning you only got 80% bandwidth while this is enabled.

2) changing my DNS servers to googles or cloudflare. Mine are Comcast, which is pretty blazing fast I thought. I test at around 930Mb/s download and 54Mb/s uploads.

3) Disabling Large Send Offload (LSO).

Have you heard of these techniques and are they safe to do ?

Don't install revios, just figure out how to tweak your own system holy shit. Stop looking for one stop shop "fps boot input lag fix and ping boost". Why are you shilling?

1. Its safe to do I believe. Also I highly suggest turning updates off in group policy editor and manually updating if you really need to. You don't want windows to ninja install buggy/unstable drivers. Latest is not always the greatest.

Configure automatic updates - Disable
Remove access to use all windows update features - Enabled
Do not connect to any windows update internet location - Enabled
Do not include drivers with windows update - Enabled

2. I highly doubt changing DNS will solve in game problems but its safe to do. Also keep in mind that DNS doesnt affect bandwidth (download/upload speed) afaik.

3. Yes, its safe to do. Weather it will solve your problem or not I do not know.

Thanks for coming back to answer that MaxTendency. Ok, yes now I see I truly need this GPE (Group Policy Editor) installed in my version of Windows. There is just so much it seems it can control that I can not otherwise. I usually am not the hacker type, as I like things all supported by the manufacture, etc.. but in this case, its a must.

Super scared here cause to even get this thing on my "Home version", is more hacking type stuff than I've ever done. At least from the instructions. I'm used to simple click instal, wait and poof ! done type stuff. lol

But besides changing the dedicated bandwidth set aside for updates (which I read is the #1 most important thing to do) I also found out to truly disable Windows Defender/Security I need GPE too. Right now I thought I disabled it all, but according to the video I watched, if I don't have GPE, then what I did is just temporary.

Either way, please check out this link here and let me know if this guy/instruction is the real proper way to do this or is he some BS hacker and there is a better way from someone else out there ? I also want most of all the place I download the script from to be the real deal place and not a hack virus/spyware thing.

Thanks man !

So btw, update - My internet is running saucy again. And it fixed itself before I did any of the above, but side note I also did do the above. It didn't work as the guy said. Seems mine was laid out a little different, and I tried all possible variations and none was as good as just leaving it as it was.

BUT having GPE is cool cause now I do have some serious control of certain things. It installed no prob from that guys script and then I ran my 3rd party virus scan/malware/spyware scan and all was well. So computer is safe. Another different thing about mine is, there is no Windows Defender, only Windows Security. And that seems to be turned off simply by what I did in the control panel settings.

If you have further instructions maybe, let me know.

To help anyone else in this situation what I did that fixed the Internet lost data packet issue was I noticed my Ethernet network said Network 3 now. And it used to just say Network. Looking into it I found out Windows seems to change to a new network automatically and name it chronologically just if you change modems ! Super weird. And I think this causes some bloated network settings cause it also keeps the old ones in some cache maybe ? IDK -- I tried and tried to get it back but it won't do it. I can rename it, but thats not it, its just the new name then "Network 3" still.

Solution was to "Reset Network" - I did that, then Network was back to just "Network" and all was snappy again ! Aint had a problem since.

So besides that, also know my settings above are top notch ! Working great. I recommend them to anyone with the same gear.

When I play other non-input lag important games (Skyrim, Final Fantasy, GTA, Red Dead, etc..) I with to more graphic quality settings and they look beautiful an are still super smooth.

Anyway, hope this helps someone else too !

From here on out we can continue Windows talk maybe. Ways to make it best for those of us that are only gaming on their PC's
