BenQ EL2870U confusion / OC possible?

Hi,

i tried to look through as much information as possible ahead but surprisingly not fining much towards the BenQ EL2870U, even tho it seems to be a decently popular Monitor. Maybe im missing someone on the very surface here, as most new people here i must admit i dont full understand Display Technology to a point i would like to.

I used an XL2411Z for the last 6 years which for my needs provided me with a very nice smooth experience. There i applied this which improved the monitor insanely for me: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=560

Since i get to play games less and less i thought i should upgrade to something giving me a nicer picture that works better for daily and work stuff, which lead me to the EL2870U. Not sure if this was the best idea but feel free to let me know your opinion. Wanted to stay below 500 and am not a fan of 1440p tbh.

Long Story short, would love to hear from someone who is a bit more familiar with the Topic if you can do anything with the Monitor in terms of improving. Would have loved to get a higher HZ 4k Monitor but those start over 1k for me. Since i had a, in my eyes, good working 1080p 120hz monitor i never saw the need to upgrade even tho i got the feeling that i should soon.

A bit more to what i already tried;

I found this post on Reddit calming, for me, insane Overclock´s on the Display:

After being very confused, since the Monitor apparently does not support those OCs via DP and only HDMI. I found that while these settings are possible. They cause terrible frame skipping:

Probably gonna stay on 4k60 for the most part but would love to know if you could swap the monitor to something with a higher refresh rate on lower res just for those games where reaction counts higher. Worst case i still have my XL2411Z Grandpa ;)

Thanks for the read any help in advance!

Well, IMO 1440p is a nice compromise. I went from 24" 1080p to 27" 1440p and the increase in both size and PPI is great. Sure, it's no 4K-like PPI, but still noticeably better than 24" 1080p PPI. Text is nice and sharp, and 1440p means I can still reach higher FPS in games compared to 4K.

Thanks for the Input. For me the issue was that upgrading to 1440p would have caused a chain reaction to upgrade my PC etc. as well. Im not planning to game on 4k in any way other then maybe the cinematic experience here or there. Would be amazing tho if i could make this monitor a bit smoother when using 1080p. Rn just cant figure out a way to do that without getting crazy skipping.

Assume your 1440p is high refresh rate? Do you ever notice 1080p content looking weird or scaled? I heard some people not being super happy with it.

Yeah, it's 165Hz. I use it at 144Hz though, since it's a 4ms IPS and higher than 144 doesn't make that much sense there.

1080p does look somewhat scaled, but in the past I completely negated that with ReShade's LumaSharpen filter and now with NVidia's in-driver sharpening. It works wonders when running 1080p on 1440p panels. I also have a 1080p 27" to test against, and when sharpening, scaled 1080p on the 1440p monitor looks virtually identical to the native 1080p display (unless you look at the image very, very closely.)

Combined with gsync, I'd say the experience is very good when gaming, but also very good when working. I'm a dev and admin so I work a lot in front of the monitor. Things are definitely more pleasant with the higher size and PPI.

Thanks!
yeah seems like an good option. I think im just gonna keep my expectations down and use the 2160p for work an entertainment while using my 1080p 120hz for gaming. Maybe at some point when i see a GPU Upgrade necessary, will think about trying 1440p for gaming.

The new DLSS looks promising and in the end you probably really dont need the 150 dpi. Bit scared tho i spoiled myself now, since my 21" 1080p has 102dip and in comparison to the 159 on my 2160p its decently noticeable. Then again its a different res so probably shouldn't compare the two. 1440p might be they way to go if you want to use 1080p as side monitors.

As im writing this post i found a dead pixel in the new monitor so i guess thats that... might join the 1440p masterrace after all x)
