How common are HDMI/DP hot plug disconnect issues?

An explanation for those not familiar with this: Some monitors (and TVs,) when they go into standby, change inputs, or potentially from other functions, will trigger a device disconnect on an attached PC. On multi-monitor systems, this causes Windows to rearrange all open windows so that none are located outside of the currently attached monitors and then when you return to your PC, nothing is where you left it. I have recently ran into this problem for the first time after I bought a Gigabyte G27Q, and have since discovered many discussion threads on the topic (still not easy to find) dating back to when HDMI and DP were first introduced to PCs. There are no real solutions other than a specially-made HDMI dongle with limited resolution/refresh rate support, and a workaround in the video drivers if you happen to own an nVidia Quadro card. The only other option is to make due with an application that saves and attempts to restore window positions when the display configuration of the PC changes.

So my question is, how common is this problem? Why is there so little discussion about it online? I understand the competing Asus TUF VG27AQ also exhibits this issue and I'm sure other models, but it's incredibly difficult to find any information.
