No Z-Series Monitors Detected but....

Hi,

I bought theMStar card to upgrade my 2720Z to firmware V2 thanks to the great article from chief. I have verified that V2 is installed on my monitor. However when i try to launch BlurBuster utility it says that

"No Z-Series Monitors Detected If you have an XL2720Z then try reinstalling the monitor driver (should not be Generic Pnp Monitor)"

the problem is, that i have looked on the Benq website and there is no display driver, so i used the driver that was on the CD that i got with the display. Now every time i launch BlurBuster, a window pups up saying Unable to hail monitor with all the tips i can try to fix it, the problem is i tried all the tips exept using a display port cable as i don't have any and i don't have a display output on my 560 Ti, also DCC/CI is ON , i am not in the service menu mode, and of course burning mode is off. I am really desperate :(

- Unplug your monitor for a few seconds from power
- Try a different DVI port on your computer (your graphics may have two DVI ports)
- Try a different DVI cable, the DDC wire may be broken or missing (rare)
- Try a DisplayPort cable
- Upgrade graphics driver
- Use a different graphics card
- Try a laptop or other computer. Monitor will remember settings when you move between computers.

Let me know if any of the above works. Most of the time, one of he above works. Sometimes it is a problem with the DDC pin/wire on DVI. Could be a bad port or a bad cable. The use of DisplayPort means testing an all new cable on all new ports on both ends, so it is an easy recommendation.

Thanks for your answer Chief.

Actually i was so disappointed yesterday that i just went to bed, and as i did that i turned windows off, and once windows was shutdown, something unexpected happened, as normaly my monitor just shutdowns with windows, but this time, it switched to burn mode, so i shutted it down manually, and today, when i relaunched windows i tried to launch BBS, and there it was: SUPPORTED MONITOR FOUND
I couldn't believe it, this made my day so to speak :)

However my joy was short lived, because, i may tweak all the settings in BBS, i can see that it doesn't do anything at all, and yes i am using the ufo test screen when i tweak with of course BR enable on t he monitor, but i have the same ghosting whether i put the sliders to the left or right. the thing i noticed is that when i close and open BBS i doesn't save my settings, everytime i open i the override check box is unchecked and settings are back at their default values is it supposed to act that way?

I read that someone had had issues with the last nvidia drivers (357.50) could this be related as i have the same drivers?

Thanks again Chief.

This is abnormal. Brightness should change when touching Override or Persistence. And it should remember settings between launchings.

Try switching drivers. I did hear issues with 357.50.

The same thing is happening to me with my 2420Z after the DIY upgrade to v2. The only things that I haven't tried are a different graphics card or hooking up to another computer (guess I need to hook the monitor to my laptop). Anyway, I am running GTX 770's in SLI mode using GeForce 335.23 (the only version that I have tried). I do have a dual monitor setup, the secondary being an NEC LCD2170NX-BK (60Hz), if that makes any difference. Any thoughts as to why the strobe utility is not detecting the BenQ 2420Z? Thanks.

Got to thinking about this and couldn't remember if I ever unplugged the monitor after upgrading to v2. Shut down the system and unplugged the 2420Z for about 10 minutes. This seemed to remedy whatever the problem was because after the system was rebooted, everything was recognized and I was able to run the strobe utility program. I guess the moral of the story is that if you manually upgrade to v2, be sure to unplug the monitor before trying to run the strobe utility program. Hopes this helps someone out.

jmb2232, glad to know it is now working!

Kaibz, can you let me know if you have resolved your problem as well?

I am having the exact same problem. My freshly upgraded monitor is not recognized by the strobe utility.
I tried unplugging in for > 10 mins and switched the dvi-port on my gfx-card with no result. Still it says no supported monitor detect. The monitor isn't in burn in mode also.

The problem with the driver for the monitor is, there seems to be none. I installed the display pilot software vom the benq-page, but that didn't help either. The device manager still says Generic PnP-Monitor. I tried unplugging my 2nd VGA only screen to - same result. I do not have the CD on hand atm, but I'd asume the driver should be on the page anyway - correct me if I'm wrong.

I am using a brand spanking new gfx driver thought (337.88). Can this cause the problem? how can I fix this problem? I got no chance to use a DP cable sadly, but the DVI-cable I'm using is fresh out of the box from benQ and runs fine, the other cables I tested only got single link which don't work with 60+ hz. The gfx card is a fairly common gtx 760 from MSI (twinfrozr 2GB).

The "Generic PnP Monitor" is a big clue -- your computer is somehow unable to communicate over the DDC/CI wire on the DVI cable. This can mean:

-- Graphics driver bug preventing DDC/CI communications
-- Bad DVI cable. (Blur Busters Strobe Utility works at 60Hz over single-link DVI cables, give it a whirl)
-- Bad DVI port on your graphics card. (probably not, but covering this base anyway).
-- Operating system (Windows 7, Vista, 8 and 8.1). Windows XP is unsupported.

DDC/CI (a form of 2-way signalling between computer and monitor) is needed for automatic detection of your monitor, via the monitor driver installation and via Blur Busters Strobe Utility.

Try downloading Entech SoftMCCS, and if it can't detect the brand name of the monitor, then you need to solve that problem unrelated to Strobe Utility. Hopefully it's not a driver bug, I would love to hear from other 337.88 users.

I tried to run the utility with 2 different (single link) DVI-cables on both DVI-ports with no use - still unrecognized.
Im running Windows 7 (x64), that should not be a problem I guess. The chance of a broken DVI-port is possible, but the card is only 3 months old iirc. So either I received it broken or its some other kind of bug.
To be honest, I got the feeling it might be related to the new driver. I'm also waiting for more feedback on this one - I will try the program you linked when I get home for sure.
Edit:
The display-pilot-software I installed recognized the monitor correctly btw. Not only it detects the proper model of my BenQ, but also my 5 year old Samsung that's connected to VGA only is recognzied by displaypilot. I don't know if this information helps, but every bit counts :)
