Confused on how to interpret this frame time graph comparison with OBS open vs closed

Post by nax_dv » 11 Oct 2021, 20:26

So, I noticed on timerbench when I have OBS open, I take a dip in FPS which is expected.

However, even though the max and 99th% frame times are similar, the graph with OBS open is drastically different and is thicker.

Does this mean with OBS open, my frame time is constantly jittering with OBS open so rapidly to provide the results shown above? Is the jitter so rapid and minimal that it doesnt mean anything? Or is there a real frame time issue?

Is this normal btw? And what exactly does the graph illustrate and what does it mean in terms of in-game performance? The frame time numbers seem so similar, and FPS decrease is expected and not a significant amount. But the graph is so drastically different that and I'm not technical enough to know exactly how to interpret what im seeing, and whether or not this is a problem that could and should be fixable.

Anyone with a smarter brain that can help explain what exactly is going on, and if there's anyway to improve this, it would be greatly appreciated. OBS was running as administrator btw.

Also, what does this exactly mean for input / system latency? Thanks in advance for any input/knowledge/advice.

also, Chief (not exactly sure how to tag) or any admin, if you happen to stumble across this post, would you mind moving this thread under the Input / Display / Network lag topic instead so i dont have to delete/repost? Im not sure if the bot would automatically flag my post as spam if i do so.
