A bit of information about Acer Predator GN246HL

Hello. First of all I didn't want to make any review of this monitor but due low information at internets I guess this information will useful for users who thinks about buying first 144Hz NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 model from Acer. I've got Acer only for input lag test comparison to mine BenQ XL2411T but I've got a passive Y-cable and it's single link DVI :( it has all pins but when I plug it OSD shows message about using original dual link DVI cable and it can handle only 1920x1080@60Hz. I had no choice and I decided to test only at 60Hz. Several runs, several apps, several reboots...I've made ~200 photos.
BenQ XL2411T settings: Mode: FPS1, brightness: 100%, contrast: 100%, Black Equalizer: 0, Instant Mode: ON, AMA: Premium.
Acer Predator GN246HL settings: Just reseted to defaults (brightness: 100%, contrast: 50%), there are much less options at Acer model and no controls to change too agressive Overdrive function.

Results are:
BenQ was faster in 48% of photos.
Same results were in 52% of photos.
BenQ was faster by 16,667ms (one frame at 60Hz) in ~95% cases.
This results are only for 1920x1080@60Hz at single link DVI connection.

Results for 144Hz may differ but I guess Acer won't be faster after i noticed that monitor operates itself always on 100/120/144Hz refresh rates. Even with single link DVI connection (1920x1080@60Hz) monitor operates at 120Hz. It can be viewed via OSD menu: http://i.imgur.com/MxY92Pc.jpg and http://i.imgur.com/GFPsomb.jpg Available refresh rates for native fullHD resolution are 60/100/120/144Hz. EnTech Monitor Asset Manager shows that controller (scaler, processor) is same as on many other 144Hz models - Mstar 0x8556. I guess LCD panel is same too but colors with default settings on Acer imho is much better than on BenQ XL2411T and less screen bleeding too ( http://i.imgur.com/G54uBoo.jpg ). Acer is smaller and weight is almost twice less than XL2411T's. It also has external AC power. Height isn't adjustable like BenQ's models has.
For competitive gaming i will not pick this monitor due some kind of framebuffer and Overdrive is much aggressive in comparison to BenQ XL2411T and can't be changed.

Will be great is Chief Blur Buster will share how to build Arduino-powered input lag meter. http://www.blurbusters.com/sneak-previe ... lag-meter/

for search engines: acer predator gn246hl gn246hlbbid input lag overdrive 144hz 1ms mstar mst 8556t

Wow, that's a bit hard to believe  . Can you take a photo at the alien invasion test?

Thanks for sharing all this information. It's good to know how other brands are compared to the usual ones.

If you are talking about http://www.testufo.com/#test=photo&phot ... vasion.png I can't find way how to enable Windows Aero at Windows 7 :) so I can make pictures only at 60Hz :( can do with PixPerAn at any refresh rate if you want.

TestUFO works perfectly under Windows 7 if you use the fancy mode that is enabled by default -- you want to avoid the "Windows 7 Basic" theme. (the equivalent non-Aero mode for Windows 7 is "Windows 7 Basic" theme). Also, you want your computer to run in performance mode with power management disabled. There are a number of steps that can be done to get TestUFO running at the full 120Hz framerate.

You want to do the opposite of the steps in this:

Since enabling this performance optimization, disables the browser's ability to synchronize to 120fps.

I've done some tests in clone mode with 144 and 120Hz modes:
144Hz: 7 runs (reboots, switching ports). 166 photos.
BenQ was faster at 74% of photos.
Same results were at 19% of photos.
Acer was faster at 7% of photos.
BenQ was faster by ~1.5 144Hz frame.

120Hz: 1 run. 26 photos.
BenQ was faster at 50% of photos.
Same results were at 50% of photos.
Acer was faster at 0% of photos.
BenQ was faster by ~1.5 120Hz frame.

Switching port didn't make any changes at results. Single or Multiple display performance mode at NVIDIA Control Panel didn't make any changes at results too.

Soon i will take BenQ XL2411Z instead this Acer and will make this tests again.
Runs were done by 2 applications. FPS at apps was 125/205/682.
By the way BenQ's pixel fall time is faster:

Testing XL2411T vs XL2411Z(V1) gave identical results at 144Hz and 120Hz. After disabling "Instant Mode" on XL2411T difference was about 9 frames in 50% shoots at 512fps at 120Hz :)

the factory preset settings are horrible. Can someone please list the settings you prefer to use to ensure optimal color and contrast settings. searched google for 5 hours to no avail.
