Upgrade from vg259qm/xg27aqm

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, Turbo240, ToastyX Strobelight, etc.

Upgrade from vg259qm/xg27aqm

Post by Royally » 09 Jan 2023, 13:10

Hello Gents,

I have both the above monitors and I'm looking to upgrade, I like both to be honest but I think I'm leaning slightly more towards the vg259qm for the smaller size the resolution difference doesn't really bother me.

I play 99% fps games, I tried to kid myself I'd play more single player games if I bought the xg but that wasn't the case.

Basically I'm looking for an upgrade to the vg259qm, I already think the motion clarity is fantastic (I'm using the 120 OD @ 280hz) but would It be a good/sizeable upgrade to the Acer xv252qf for instance? Is the xg27aqm about as good as it gets for motion clarity with ips.

I was looking at the Zowie series but I'm not sure I'd want to downgrade imo to a TN panel, although the response times are ridiculous.

Would I notice a sizeable upgrade with the Acer being a newer panel etc and possibly better strobing implementation or is the vg already pushing how far an ips panel can go?

Any and all reccomendations are appreciated and also thoughts on the upcoming 500hz+ monitors, I'm sure them being first gen 500hz would come with teething problems I'm not sure I want to deal with.

Unfortunately the XG2431 isn't avaliable here in Spain.

Many Thanks

VG25 is slightly slower compared to XG. You can keep XG27AQM and make a custom, unscaled resolution to match 25" just like on PG27AQN.

Thanks for the reply, is there a guide to do that and does it affect performance at all?

Custom resolutions can be made with CRU or nvidia or amd control panel.

For 27" 1440p 16:9 display:
25.0" = 2368x1332 (Asus's PG27AQN 25" mode)
24.5" = 2322x1306
23.8" = 2258x1270

Most importantly you need to disable scaling in nvidia/amd control panel display settings. I believe on nvidia its called "no scaling" and on amd "center".

You can keep 1440p for desktop and use custom resolutions for gaming. When in-game and desktop refresh rates are identical alt-tabbing is instantaneous. So no issues there.

Ofcourse these resolutions are more demanding than 1080p and less than full 1440p. Other than that you should feel no difference.

Thanks a lot I can't believe I didn't know this before!
It looks great, I have noticed my 1% lows are significantly lower at 2368x 1332, even than 1440p. Gone from around 250 fps 1% lows @ 1440p to less than 200, is there something I am missing? 3080 with a 5800x.

Doing it all through NVCP.

Ive been using the 24.5 all day thanks its amazing!

Any idea why my 1% lows have dropped, I was at 250 fps 1%lows @ 1440p and now at 2322x1306 theyre around 180?

That's weird! I don't know. How is the scaled vs unscaled 1080p performing?

I'm sure you'll figure it out.

I'm not sure, its very strange.
But they're noticeably lower when I use a custom resolution?

I'll mess around with some settings any advice is appreciated, but this isn't normal right?
