Hi all,
I have an AOC Q27G3XMN 1440p monitor with a RTX 4070 Super GPU connected via DisplayPort. As soon as I enabled g-sync I started experiencing the notorious VRR flicker. According to CRU this monitor's VRR range is 48-180Hz. I've been reading forums, etc but cannot figure out what range I should set for this combo to minimize flickering. This is all new to me. Should I set it to 90-180Hz?

An upper limit that's at least 2.5 times higher than the lower limit is usually enough. So in your case, try 72-180. 90 is too high, only use it if you really have to and can't fix the flicker otherwise.mario64 wrote: ↑03 Feb 2024, 21:57Hi all,

Although with that being said, IIRC, the Nvidia driver might ignore the VRR range with some monitors and use whatever Nvidia has deemed "best" for a specific monitor model. Try and see, I guess.

Didn’t work unfortunately. Loaded up World of Warcraft in a zone where I get max fps of 180 and am still seeing flickering

Bit of a necro, but I feel like it's better to have this in a visible place for other owners of the monitor.
I've been using this as my primary monitor since the start of the year, and out of the box, the flickering is abysmal. I've mostly just played with VRR off to deal with it. However, I put the VRR range to 90-180hz with CRU just now, and contrary to the experiences of the OP, it did seem to help for my setup and usecase. (AOC Q27G3XMN as primary, LG 27GL83A-B as secondary—though the LG is turned off most of the time. Both are over DP on a 2070 super on driver version 551.23). Previously, even fps-locked games (be it ffxiv capped to 101 fps via nvcp, or fighting games or pixel art games capped to 60 fps in-engine) would flicker miserably when VRR was enabled. Now, the monitor does not noticeably flicker in FFXIV, Momodora, or the fighting games I've tried. Even jerking around the framerate slider or randomly clicking on framerate values in smoothfrog on the pursuit frog page used to cause noticeable flicker; it no longer does. (The stars page in smoothfrog still flickers, though, but I suspect this is more to do with the way VA pixel response interacts with the image than anything else.) I can't say the issue is completely gone, as I've seen it flicker once or twice on very large excursions (like alt-tabbing back into xiv, which fps caps itself to either 30 or 15 when the window isn't focused, so you jump from 15/30 to 101). But the problem at least seems mitigated.
The OP's setup is different from mine, and I haven't done any tests (other than smoothfrog) that involve refresh rates closer to the maximum. It's not unreasonable that it'd fix my problems and not theirs—especially given that I'm using VRR to play games that are fps-locked to values well below the monitor's maximum refresh, and they're hitting framerates that might engage normal vsync. But it doesn't seem as hopeless as the OP had led me to believe.
Now if only the pixel inversion artifacts would go away at a refresh rate above 120hz, or the ever-so-slight black smearing didn't give some textures a crawling effect during motion...
