Is there any rule of thumb to know if G-sync works in borderless fullscreen (not exclusive fullscreen)?

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

In NVCP I know I could turn on a g-sync indicator watermark, but I haven't purchased the game.

I've read that g-sync borderless fullscreen depends on Windows version or graphics API.

I'm wondering if someone has some more specific guidelines.

Additional question: Let's say the game I'm playing is DX11 and runs pretty horribly in windowed mode. What solutions do I have to make it closest to G-sync? I've tried using NVCP to utilize G-sync in windowed mode but that didn't work. I've tried v-sync overrides, different refresh rates, ULMB, and turning off g-sync altogether. The game still has consistent stutter that I see in other windowed games.

Thank you.
