FPS Cap Question: Overclocking Refresh Rate for Proper Sync?

Post by drvnscrpt » 08 Feb 2025, 23:10

Hello everyone, first post here! I have a technical question about G-Sync that I couldn’t find an answer to online.

According to the G-Sync 101 guide, it’s important to cap FPS at 3 below the refresh rate for optimal performance. However, my game only offers a dropdown menu for FPS limits (180, 200, 240, etc.), meaning I can’t cap to 237 FPS without using third-party apps (I’d prefer to stick with the in-game limiter)

To work around this, I thought about overclocking my 240Hz monitor to 243Hz and using the 240 FPS in-game cap. Would this have the same effect as running at 240Hz with a 237 FPS cap? It seems logical, but I wanted to confirm.

Thanks for reading! :D

The -3 suggestion is an upper bound. Anything lower than that is perfectly fine too. Just pick 200 in your case.
