Does CTA-861 triple buffer frames?

Post by 99muppets » 28 Feb 2025, 22:48

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq4zXrIJm44&t=48s

saw this video earlier, he has a lot of decent videos with good testing methodology, but does this have any merit? Never heard of anything like this online and don't have an Ldat to measure. Seems impossible that the monitor itself could dictate a buffer from the gpu, but maybe it can. Anyone knowledgeable have any input?

Deleting every extension block is the best if your monitor can handle it.

After testing for a bit I found it to be good for games like Roblox where you can't really make it run in actual fullscreen. I don't notice a latency difference so might as well use it.

this was my cru before the tweak and then i add it by hand just like in the video, can you explain why "Deleting every extension block is the best" because i was playing like you are saying no extensions block, but this guy "kizzimo" has showing many unknown tweaks.

I'm not sure if it's the best but I don't need those extension blocks for anything so it's only bloat getting removed.

ok but in the post above you said "After testing for a bit I found it to be good for games like Roblox where you can't really make it run in actual fullscreen. I don't notice a latency difference so might as well use it." so no extension block or only the one shown in the video?

It's supposed to make a difference in windowed games so it's worth adding the DisplayID setting.

I wouldn't believe any of this because there's no data to back up the claim.

Even worse, the explanation is extremely vague, suggesting there is no understanding of the subject matter. Case in point:

"CTA-861 tends to use triple buffering"

Who tends to use triple buffering? The GPU? The display? The operating system? DWM? Vagueness to hide lack of understanding is the typical hallmark of snake oil.

Ok then big boss you have point, because for example another youtuber show another tweak from this guy "kizzimo" but in the other video there was benchmarks and revert file,in this video there is none.So for best results my cru should be back to normal like this ?
