Low Latency and Stutter-free, is it possible to achieve both?

Talk about NVIDIA G-SYNC, a variable refresh rate (VRR) technology. G-SYNC eliminates stutters, tearing, and reduces input lag. List of G-SYNC Monitors.

Low Latency and Stutter-free, is it possible to achieve both?

Post by Kook » 16 Apr 2025, 19:46

Hello y’all I had a few questions about using Gsync, vsync and Nvidia reflex. I have a 165 Hz monitor that has free sync and I bought a DP cable to enable G sync on it. I cap my frames in the Nvidia control panel at 160. I also turned on the vsync in nvcp and off in the game. I also I turned on reflex mode in the game and auto caps my frames at 158 and it’s it fluctuates it’s not the most stable. My GPU usage is around 40% and my CPU usage is around 20%. I have an RTX 4070 GPU and I have a 13th generation I 13 700 CPU with 32 GB of RAM and one terabyte SSD. I am looking to get a tear free smooth experience and have low latency at the same time. I tried RTSS but then since I play faceit I can’t use it there cause I need a special console command and face. what should I do? Should I turn off reflex? Should I keep reflex enabled? Should I turn off the frame capper since reflex is auto capping? Please tell me the best configuration to get the smoothest experience while keep a low latency, I’ve read many forums and I’m still lost

I noticed when I turned reflex off and use a frame capper my game becomes smoother, if I’m not bottlenecked do I need reflex after all?

No. But the Reflex limiter might be even lower latency than the one you're using right now.

The Reflex limiter can be configured in NVCP. The "max frame rate" option in the game's NVCP profile will use the Reflex limiter if Reflex is enabled in the game. So you might want to test that out and use whatever feels best.

Oh okay! If I set the frame cap at 160 in the NVCP the reflex capper overrides it and caps my frames at 158, so to configure it you mean I have to set a capper below the 158 reflex cap?

Also would it hurt to set a frame cap at 160 in the nvcp global setting and also use reflex? Because I’ve heard some people say multiple frame caps stacked will cause issues.. and If I’m not bottlenecked, what does reflex do to reduce latency besides providing a frame cap?

Thank you I appreciate the quick reply!
