Vsync + Reflex Without Vrr

Post by Biladeiro » 13 May 2025, 01:24

Hey everyone.

So, I have this friend that got a new computer, but he's still using an old display (without vrr). I wanted to know what would be best for him in terms of input lag for competitive shooters: to enable or not vsync + reflex. Cause I'm using the goat combo of vsync + reflex + gsync; but I can't just recommend this to him, as he has no vrr and I'm not aware how or if reflex works without vrr.

Also, he has an amd gpu, and mainly plays Warzone. As it's been a long since I played a game without gsync, I'm also curios as if cod uses some kind of adaptive sync (that disengages vsync when the pc can't keep up with the display refresh rate), or if its double or triple buffered.

Thanks in advance.

Reflex is an Nvidia thing anyway, so it doesn't even apply to your friend since they're on an AMD GPU :P

Other than that, Reflex won't be doing anything if you get fully vsynced (meaning running uncapped and hitting the vsync ceiling.) You can still use the Reflex FPS limiter with just vsync and get a massive latency benefit, but obviously without VRR this will have some judder since the display won't be able to adapt its refresh rate to match the Reflex cap.
