BENQ XL2430T Query

Post by AlfieJPalmer » 25 Nov 2014, 16:30

Hi all,

Just discovered this great site and it's taught me a lot about the different features present in modern displays.

I've recently purchased a BenQ XL2430T ( :D ) and am pretty much loving it thus far. I've been experimenting with the strobing, and other settings to get the optimal results with the testufo applet. When I first open the page* it takes a little while for the UFO to settle down, it stutters quite a bit (i.e. looks like it lags behind) and then corrects itself. Is this normal, or is there some other setting i'm missing somewhere? I've tried playing with alternative DVI operational mode (ATI) and single strobe but with no luck. I've recently got hold of a new XL2430T (the old one's S-Switch decided to pack up after 3 days -_- :x ) and it still does it. Also.. the monitor doesn't always seem as smooth at 144hz as I'd expect. Any comments and suggestions are appreciated. For reference purposes, I've got my specs listed below:

Also to note: I've tried clocking my CPU back to 3.6GHz (stock), and RAM to 1333MHz and the issue persists. When testing various settings, I always disable my other two monitors and only use the BENQ.

* All of the tests were carried out using Chrome.

SSD: OCZ Agility 3 256GB
Monitor: 144hz BenQ XL2430T 24" & 2x 120hz Hanns.G HS233H3B 23"
Mouse: SteelSeries Kana v2 (Black) w/ Hyperglides, polling @ 1000Hz

The stutter is browser related. Nothing to do with the monitor at all. HTML5 is sensitive to things that a normal game running at 100 fps may not be sensitive to.

And you got a 'new' 2430T? What happened to your old 2430T? or do you have two of them?

Hi Falkentyne,

Thanks for the reply buddy. The S-Switch that comes with the monitor decided to stop working. It's not necessarily a monitor related issue (could be the device itself) but thought i'd claim it on warranty after weighing out almost £300 and it stopping after 3 days =).

Benq will send you a new S-Switch if you call their toll-free 800# and contact their support department. All they need is your address and panel serial number (which is on the box; no idea if there's a sticker under the monitor or not). They do a much better job of taking care of their customers than Asus does (I got a new S-switch the very next day, after I called them to get mine replaced).

Amazon sent me a brand new monitor (and S-Switch ahah) within a day, even on a Sunday! =).

i got the same monitor like a month ago, and i'm still playing around with the settings, don't seem to find a perfect standard. Would appreciate your setting values too e.g. black equalizer, color vibrance, contrast, brightness, gamma, colour temperature..

Thanks :D ;)

I tried my best to adjust before using ICC side by side tweak from my IPS display. So I don't have to worry about in-game that will not ever use the ICC (ignored).

In game you can lower the GAMMA down to 0 usually the correct value for TN washed out black.

Picture Mode Standard
Blur Reduction ON
Intensity 7
Area 0
Black eQualizer 0
Color Vibrance 10
Instand Mode ON
Brightness 100
Contrast 47
Sharpness 5-6
Gamma 5
Color Temperature User Define
R 93
G 100
B 95
AMA High

If you want DEEP Black no fade out black. (2-3 black shade level crushed.)

Color Vibrance 11
Contrast 35-40 (to ensure not overblown grey turns yellow tint)
The rest are the same as above

Enjoy... I have spent at least 2-3 hours tweaking between applications and games to see what's best.

Very nice.. These are similar to the settings i'm using at the moment.

I think my issue was caused because of the following: I had single strobing turned off; and bumped the 'Area' of Blur Reduction up way too high.

I also turned the Black eQ down to 0; it's a cool feature, but the constant re-adjustment of brightness starts to do my head in.

Thanks for your information. A. :D

I believe you ran into a bug.

I know the Z monitors have this bug also.
Single strobe OFF is supposed to make the monitors double strobe at 50, 60 and 75hz, and single strobe at 76-144 hz.
However is single strobe is set to off, if you toggle blur reduction to on (if it's off), it uses the default settings for strobe duty (persistence) and strobe phase (area). It will instantly change to your custom settings as soon as the brightness is changed, or if you enabled blur reduction through a profile switch (using a profile switch also 'changes' the brightness since the screen is initialized with the profile settings), or you changed the strobe duty or strobe phase through the service menu.

You may have run into that bug.
The easiest way to avoid it if you have single strobe set to off, is to enable blur reduction through the S switch/profile switch.
But that's assuming the 2430T reacts the exact same way as the Z's

BTW can you do me a favor?
Please.

set brightness to 30 (please don't set it to 100, LED damage could possibly occur)
Set single strobe to ON and turn blur reduction off.
Set the video card to 50 hz.
Enable blur reduction.

What happens?
