floaty mouse reproducable fix

Post by ablemor » 13 Jul 2025, 07:22

Hi everyone,
I found something related to the floaty mouse issue that can be tried again and again. But I want to emphasize: just because it works for me doesn't mean it will work for everyone. I really hope someone gives it a try, because a lot of topics here get no responses, and it would be great to know for whom it works and for whom it doesn’t.

So, to get to the point: I play CS2, and in fullscreen mode my mouse feels floaty and bad, and the image also feels slower. But when I switch to borderless fullscreen (fullscreen windowed), the floaty feeling is significantly reduced, and I shoot much better.

However, there’s a price to this maybe a drop of 50 to 100 FPS—and the image isn’t as smooth.
It's important to highlight that when the game is in borderless fullscreen, Windows resolution is what matters. So, for example, at 1024x768 the mouse feels much faster, while at 1920x1080 it’s noticeably slower.

Apparently, this improvement is due to DWM (Desktop Window Manager) handling the rendering instead of the GPU directly. Can someone explain why that might help?

That said, I’m still sure I have EMI/RFI issues too that’s without question—but running the game this way seems to bypass something, and the mouse movement is much better. Until I find a proper solution, I might just play like this.

As I said, this can be reproduced at any time if I change the resolution back, the floaty mouse feeling returns.

Sorry if I wrote anything incorrectly, English is not my native language.

I forgot to mention: if I plug in my EMI filter and play in borderless fullscreen mode, the mouse improves a little bit more. But in fullscreen mode, it does nothing at all I always end up overshooting with the crosshair.

Do you have gaming mode on in windows? What about hardware gpu acceleration?

It's still happening now can someone else who’s experiencing this also try it, not just me? As soon as I switch to fullscreen mode, my mouse becomes floaty, and I can't shoot properly. Spray control is also difficult. But in windowed mode it's really good just the image isn’t smooth, and I need the extra FPS.

Update: It looks like updating the NVIDIA driver solved the issue, and I also enabled G-Sync and set Low Latency Mode to 'On' in windowed mode — that's working best.

dont like this driver, it cause big lag in cpu heavy games for me. try 566.14 or 566.06 and write what u feel

I don't know what's happening it's been working for me for several days now, and the difference is huge. I've never felt anything like this before this is the biggest fix I've ever found. I swear it's even better than my magnetic solution, although that one worked in full-screen mode too, which suggests there's interference. I just don't understand why my mouse isn't bad in windowed mode. I guess DWM helps that much, but there must still be a tiny bit of latency.
