BenQ XL2420G Release Info
Re: BenQ XL2420G Release Info
I keep wondering if for something like Rfactor2, one could use a single BenQ xl2420g g-sync with two xl2420z for a triple monitor setup? G-sync might be interesting for the centre screen, but because the side screen are really somewhat in peripheral vision, you might able to get away with non g-sync side screens?
Just curious if that would work?

I'm pretty sure that your peripheral vision is more sensitive to fast motion and changes in framerate than your center-field-of-view. For evolutionary reasons ... our peripheral vision is tuned to detect predators out of the corner of our eye.smbrm wrote:I keep wondering if for something like Rfactor2, one could use a single BenQ xl2420g g-sync with two xl2420z for a triple monitor setup? My old biology teacher used to tell us to turn our head sideways during a movie at a theater, at which point it's easier to detect the 24fps film flicker than when we're staring straight ahead. So side monitors at a different framerate than the center could be disorienting.
That said, I dunno if mixed gsync and non-gsync even works on a multi-monitor setup.

Some things in your peripheral vision is more sensitive, while other aspects aren't.
G-SYNC works if you disable the left/right monitors, and regular surround works with mixed G-SYNC/non-GSYNC monitors. So the setup would work, as long as you didn't mind blanking out your side monitors while using GSYNC. The reconfiguring (switching back and fourth) would probably be the annoying part.

Sounds like it is just as easy then to stick with 3x2420z, since to be honest 3 g-syncs just seems over the top on cost, especially if the promise of the Oculus Rift is realized. Beside you only need to see that cars are entering your peripheral vision, not their blur free details.
Thanks for the advice.

Anyone know where the display pilot software for the xl2420g is? on the benq website, it lists it for other models, but the G is not seen

I posted the Display Pilot on page 3 (in my linked review). Here it is again, straight from BenQ support: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByZFdQ ... sp=sharing

Users who are asking about the S-switch ever working in G-Sync mode on this model I asked BenQ support if S-switch will be updated to work in G-Sync mode since the s-switch only works in normal mode.

Great question! Unfortunately this isn’t actually possible. Since G-Sync is its own separate system (basically a separate monitor with the exception of the LCD panel itself) we aren’t able to integrate certain features such as the S-Switch.

Any chance you can go into more detail on this? All you did was install Display Pilot and bump up the digital vibrance? Or is there more to it?ciopenhauer wrote:Coming from a Dell Ultrasharp H-IPS panel, I have absolutely no complaints now. They were horrible at first in Classic mode without Display Pilot + Standard preset, but it's fairly easy to get them to look great. In G-sync mode they look good right away. I just bump the digital vibrance slightly.
